Folks, I would like to submit a new package/feature to OpenSuSE, and I'm at the point where I believe I need to get input from this list. Project name/description: ipmiutil - An easy-to-use IPMI management utility IPMIUTIL performs a series of common IPMI management functions to allow administrators to perform management functions without a learning curve. It can gather FRU inventory data, SEL firmware log, sensors, watchdog, power control, health, monitoring, and has an SOL console. It can write sensor thresholds, FRU asset tags, and supports a full IPMI configuration save/restore. Why: It is comparable to ipmitool, but with certain advantages, and has an existing base of users in the upstream project. Upstream URL: http://ipmiutil.sourceforge.net Detailed comparison of ipmiutil and other IPMI software: http://ipmiutil.sourceforge.net/docs/ipmisw-compare.htm What: I have added the ipmiutil project to my home project and built it: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=ipmiutil&project=home%3Aarcress My question is about next steps. The proposed Factory project for ipmiutil would be systemsmanagement:wbem, which is the same location as ipmitool, but please comment if there is a more appropriate project. After that, I'm not sure if I should open a feature request via OpenFATE, or is there another step before that? Andy

You're 90% done, assuming you picked the correct devel repo. See http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_Factory So once it is submitted to the systemsmanagement:wbem devel project, then you just need to submit it from there to factory. OpenFATE is not involved, and I would say the email you sent qualifies as the factory notification email. Folks,

OK, ipmiutil has been submitted and accepted into systemsmanagement:wbem, but when I try to submit it from there to the factory, I get a permission error doing the submitrequest: # osc sr systemsmanagement:wbem ipmiutil openSUSE:Factory Warning: failed to fetch meta data for 'openSUSE:Factory' package 'ipmiutil' (new package?) Server returned an error: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden No permission to create request for package 'ipmiutil' in project 'systemsmanagement:wbem', only maintainers can create requests. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another step first? If I need to be designated as a maintainer for ipmiutil, I didn't see how to do that. The owner of systemsmanagement/wbem should have made you maintainer of the package - and then you would have the rights to do this...
