[opensuse-factory] Step by step info on how to connect two Tumbleweed computers via a switch
Having read much too much literature about the setup of a home network I am comming to a point that I need a simple manual for my needs. My two computers are both connected through a switch with the router by cable. I want to have the possibility to exchange data between the computers on a regular base. Both are running Tumbleweed. The computers are both physically under my control. Looks like there are straight solutions until you start reading everything there is about connecting computers via a home network. Would appreciate help of an expert. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Just plug said two machines into whatever switch is also connected to the machine you wrote that mail from :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

This ML is not the place for questions like this. You would be better served in the openSUSE Forums. As a hint, check out NFS, which stands for Network File System. Thanks Larry, Know that this ML is not the place for such questions but after the opensuse@opensuse.org is completely dead there seems to be no ML for these kind of questions. opensuse-offtopic@opensuse.org does not seem to the right replacement. Never did anything via Forums and think I should do some reading in order to find out what to expect. Why would you consider opensuse@opensuse.org "completely dead"? To me it seems live and active with helpful supporters. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You have given no requirements on how you want this to work. Do you want one to be a file server and always on or do you want a replicated data source that is on both machines. Without you thinking and explaining what you want it is quite hard to give you "step by step info". If it is a fileserver and client you could look at NFS or SAMBA or SSHFS or many other options. Alternatively why not build a replicated glusterfs filesystem on both PCs. Do it right and you can make it work so that all files are replicated and available as local filesystems. If you want a cloud type solution why not look at owncloud.
