[opensuse-factory] Suggestion for zypper/yast: add optional or fallback repos
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, It is typical that after the system is installed, the installation media is not used again. But unless you manually remove the installation media repo, it is asked for when yast or zypper start, with errors like: Empty destination in URI: hd:///?device=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-1SanDisk_Cruzer_Glide_.......-part2 That the cd/usb stick is not present is not crucial, as the same content is available from the oss + non-oss default repos. So that particular repo could be marked "optional" (or not, for people with slow Internet). Also, when a repo or a URL fails, we could have another repo or URL as failover. Example 1. I export the installation image via NFS on my local network. My laptop could mount and use that while at home, or the usb stick if connected, when not at home. With a failover repo, zypper would try first the stick, if unavailable failover to NFS, and if that were also missing, it could stop with a message, as it does now, or skip if the whole is defined "optional". Example 2. On some cases, people have problems with the mirrors selected by the Brain. We could in that case define a failover URL, instead of having to manually edit the URLs and try again. No, I don't know how to code all that... sorry. Just some ideas I throw to the people that can :-)) - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
