[opensuse-factory] plasma-nm instead of NetworkManager-kde4?
Hi, I did a fresh install of 13.1 RC1 from http://software.opensuse.org/developer/en, using the DVD ISO. I've performed a zypper dup, which seemed to promptly replace NetworkManager-kde4 with plasma-nm. Is this intended? If it is, I assume there were some pretty good reasons, as I've already found two bugs: - https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845909 (VPN connection can not be started from plasma-nm-openconnect) - https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845783 (NetworkManager fails to save connection details for WAN connection with TLS) Robert -- http://robert.muntea.nu/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hum, that is bug. The plasma-nm should replace networkmanagement only on 13.2(Factory). Please fill in another bug in the bugzilla for kde team about this as it was probably just overlook that I merged the commit inteded for Factory to 13.1 (and add me to CC). :) You can still install back the NetworkManager-kde4 hopefully to get back at least a bit working system in meantime... Cheers Tom

I filed https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845986 ( plasma-nm incorrectly present in 13.1 post RC1 )

Yup, did that. I just wanted to see if the change was intentional or not. Thanks! Robert
Cheers

This was by accident. We wanted to make sure that for those people that would install plasma-nm the old NetworkManager-kde4 would be removed. Unfortunately, as that plasma-nm has a higher version, the change also happens during upgrade. I have just submitted a new plasma-nm package that would resolve this. You should keep in mind that plasma-nm is the successor of NetworkManager-kde4 and that in Factory (and therefore 13.2) NetworkManager-kde4 will no longer exist.

I checked the bug report and it seems that you are missing the component NetworkManager-openconnect. Could you please install that one and see if it works ?

If you revert back to NetworkManager-kde4, can you check if it works ? Thanks Regards Raymond -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Raymond, Good to know, thanks.

Yes, also confirmed in the bug that after installing the mentioned package it works.

No, that's a known bug I guess :| . I tried to point out that even with the new version it does not work, see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299863 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=824285 ( applies to both Gnome and KDE ) Robert
Thanks

Ah, I wondered that too.. while the basic functionality is mostly working, the UI is kinda flaky at times, has dialogs that do not fit the applet..etc..I understand it is under development ;) -- "If debugging is the process of removing bugs, then programming must be the process of putting them in." - Edsger Dijkstra -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You might want to check out the newer version that I submitted. This one has a better UI and the dialogs fit the applet, etc. It has come a long way and sees very active development. Thanks for this thread. I also got plasma-nm with a "zypper dup" from 12.3 to 13.1-RC1. As I only use simple connections to my LAN, the applet worked; however, the available information was very limited. My system usually runs with several wireless devices installed (4 at the moment), I need some way to identify the device that I wish to test. NetworkManager-KDE4, also known as plasmoid-networkmanager, identifies the device by driver name. With plasma-nm, I was able to get only the wlanX info, which is not as convenient. From the video I just watched about plasma-nm, it seems that the developers have advanced a lot from the version that was installed by accident. By 13.2, it should have what I want.
