[opensuse-factory] problem with rc2 on a laptop
Hello, I just "zypper dup -l" on a laptop (netbook, in fact) and have problem It's a very old install that run without (major) problem since factory 6 month ago, regularly upgraded I didn't use it for nearly 3/4 weeks, so don't know what was the previous install. now with RC2, I can boot init 1, but not init 3, and issuing init 3 after boot make the computer stop accepting keyboard input (but it's not crashed as pressing the switch makes it close gracefully). The network connection is through wlan, this may be the problem. Starting the network simply give nothing - the status is 'active (exited)", but ifconfig do not show any interface apart lo the update was made through wlan, so I know it should work :-) looking at dmesg, I see only eth2 is tried and of course don't work (not connected). launching yast, I'm warned I have to use network manager, but don't know howto do this from init 1 :-( so revert to traditional ifup. going to wlan, I notice I have a fixed IP 89.234.168.110 / 21 (why 21?) I do not remember to have ever setup - but I may have done it and forgotten like this the wlan is up, but do not get any IP from dhcp. I notice also that the wlan led is not lit I beg I have to find some wired connection ideas? thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

yes it was, a very old install at RMLL... that said I have a curious working, may be I don't master enough the network. When using dhcp, is it necessary to fill the gateway info in yast? I had to do this to get the network (still with ifup, of course) making yet an other zypper dup now I noticed than when one have problems with dependencies leading zypper to ask questions, it's not good to answer "1", often not the best answer. I had to answer "2" (keep obsolete opensuse branding) if not nearly all kde would have been uninstalled thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

rc2 broke defintively the wlan. Here I write with 11.4 on the same computer. Having no dvd reader on this computer I will have to work... jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I had a couple of problems getting my ThinkPad E520 to work with both RC1 & RC2. What hardware is in your computer? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
