Re: [opensuse-factory] question about lightdm status on openSUSE
XDM package is always installed as it is a dependency from xorg-x11 and is used by default but when we add GDM or KDM the XDM is replaced by then as the default display manager. It is the best behavior... So my question is, can we have the same behavior with lightDM? When we have just XDM installed and we add lightDM the default display manager should be lightDM. I know it can be easily configured but when creating an appliance with susestudio we need to change the display manager using a script to have it in the first boot thx, sauLo

Works. Thanks mate... sad that the theme sucks, but that can be fixed I suppose.

lightdm + lightdm-gtk-greeter went into Factory more
ago and have been the default display manager for the Xfce desktop since 12.1. It has full sysconfig and XDM/GDM- compatible script support so I suppose it is as well integrated as GDM or KDM, at least if you refer to the Factory package
X11:Utilities.
Very nice... I assume then it's available in 12.2 also. What's the entry for /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager ?

No, see my other mail. But that should not be the case, as I tend to choose minimal patterns (for text and X11) and then do my package selection as it fits my needs. Not sure if I am understanding it. So should it be fixed in YaST to correctly change the DM? If yes, what happen if we install kdm and lightDM in the same environment? which one should be the default? Maybe we need to establish a priorite list of DMs.. I just checked by installing gdm on a test system, it doesn't set itself as the preferred DM. So openSUSE is biased to xdm and kdm else history. So is it somehow tied to the installation patterns Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
