[opensuse-factory] steam & kernel 4.14.12
Just a quick note...steam still crashes the computer with newer kernel 4.14.12 Will the fix be noted in the snapshot notes so I will know wether or not to download it as my boot list will be filled with kernels that steam will not work with?? Hello, are you on AMD or Intel? I had crashes with my Ryzen build while launching 32bits apps because PTI was enabled, but with kernel 4.14.12 patched to disable PTI on AMD everything is fine and I can launch Steam flawlessly. ___ Alex aka DarthWound Global Steam Moderator Le jeudi 11 janvier 2018 à 07:53 -0500, mike a écrit :

AMD Phenom II.....got the new kernel bump today and it still crashes and locks the computer.....guess I will have to disable PTI too, thanks,

Kernel 4.14.12 on Tumbleweed automatically disables PTI if AMD is detected. So you shouldn't have to disable PTI yourself now. But PhenomII are quite old, maybe there's an issue with them. However are you sure it's related to kernel? Did you try to launch Steam via command line? ___ Alex aka DarthWound Global Steam Moderator Le jeudi 11 janvier 2018 à 14:23 -0500, mike a écrit :

I did a "steam --reset" and when I tried to delete the libstdc++ libraries to make steam work on opensuse and then ran "steam" it gave the errors as if the bad libs were still there. So I checked and to my surprise they are there again. It seems like when I run steam now it puts the old libs back first. Never seen this before. So thanks for the kernel help though..... mike spartana
