openSUSE Release Engineering Meeting 24.11.2021
All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting Meeting is hosted here https://meet.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ## Attendees lkocman, Sarah , dleuenberger DocB, rbrown, guillaumeg, ddemaio, deneb_alpha ## Leap A next build is in openqa after a long time (we have a continues rebuild hell), that does not allow us to produce builds before a next rebuild is triggered. We've currently disabled standard to decouple rebuild of backports and image creation (a workaround). Concerning bug is https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190288 which seems to be responsible for a lot of openqa failures. armv7 tasks are still missing in Release Checklist for Leap 15.4 https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/blob/master/Alpha.md https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/22 We seem to have some initial feedback from cisco on openh264, so something is finally happening Donation of VMDP drivers https://en.opensuse.org/Donation:Software Can I consider this final process? Worked with Andrii on consistent Leap 15.3 current/media sysmlinks across stage/prod (continuation at the bottom). Question regarding 15.4: Half of the requests are in status 'SLE accept pending'. How do we progress/continue? Ah yes, we have to go throught all features and make sure they're up2date. Will cover this part week. ## openSUSE Tumbleweed * Tumbleweed has been rolling full steam ahead for the last week (daily snapshots) * KDE Frameworks 5.88 and Plasma 5.23.3 * Kernel 5.15.2 & 5.15.3 * Maintainers are discussing to move to PHP 8.0 (7.x is going EOL, 8.1 not yet ready) * Rust 1.56 to come in snapshot 1123+ ## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS) MicroOS Desktop - Recent transactional-update update fixes all MicroOS Desktop impacting issues with podman/flatpaks and gnome-software system updates.. we might be reaching the end of BETA for MicroOS Desktop GNOME soon... Adding nerdctl/rootlesskit/buildkit stack (aka the containerd-without Docker-stack) to Factory Investigating adding nerdctl support to Toolbox working on a tool to convert existing Tumbleweed (and maybe also Leap) systems to MicroOS and/or MicroOS Desktop new MicroOS Desktop website still WIP ## Max * Some issues after published 15.3 QU1, we did a release and republish, however still has an issue regarding extra repos being removed after installing release-package, thanks to Marcus, a fixed release-package from update channel should fix this issue. Unfortunately thing is we probably can not remove extra repos from release-package for the next few 15.x release * Update some packages from Factory that fixed builf failures also. * 15.4: some build failures we need to find owners (cilium, envoy, protoc, etc.), send mail to package maintainer * https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/kubic@lists.opensuse.org/thread/QCQ... From TW, most of those are dropped (unmaintainable) * opensuse-welcome didn't display on GNOME bsc#1190288 * Somewhat https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/15.3/release.not... is missing, switch to Tumbleweed's release-notes.rpm for the time being in Leap's medium, otherwise the shortcut setup in Response from docs team Ftr, this is what we have: ~/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/15.3> ll *rpm; echo; md5sum *rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 relsync users 2383380 Oct 27 06:00 release-notes-openSUSE- L153.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 relsync users 2383380 Oct 27 06:00 release-notes.rpm eed1c78226061a57d7004ecead765c46 release-notes-openSUSE-L153.rpm eed1c78226061a57d7004ecead765c46 release-notes.rpm installer will be changed then broke openQA testing lkocman: I'll check on this with docs team, also for 15.4 ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * Sporadic BTRFS bug: fix available upstream http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1160604 Leap 15.4: * No Arm specific update ## Sarah - s390x * QA has replaced the disk of openQA worker node rebel. openQA is failing now, because the old containerized solution will be applied instead of the new one. * openSUSE-ftp-ftp-s390x.kiwi had to be adopted because of packages were not found s390x kernel issue seems to be looked at https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1192454 (should be under a public product SP3). ## Doug * metrics.o.o fixed (thank you witek) * Number for ESG report * TAPIOCA consumerism meeting devconf.cz - Our openSUSE meetup was approved yesterday (3 proposed topics, openqa, rolling distro, how to build package for different distros in OBS). We already have some interested people in joining online. Lubos will double check if online attenance is possible. Anything planned for FOSDEM? No info on FOSDEM stands listed on the website https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/ ddemaio can reachout to sponsors@fosdem.org ## Dirk Not available - Cloud:OpenStack:Factory update, had > 100 devel:languages:python updates to get into factory as prepration - Nothing done regarding arm ports this week ## Gerald / Board Heaha = Here and happy. ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling Not available python2 removal from openSUSE:Backports-15-SP4 (raised by Marcus M.) project config tweak of macros (python2 packages are still trying to get build) we can probably disable it individually Marcus: could this be some export filter or so that filters them out? DimStar: do we use python-macros packages? Very often if you change that you have to do deep inspect or OBS will not re-evaluate macros properly. In TW we have a serial number macro that forces re-eval. Dirk: prjconf macros without_python2 1 ## Maintenance team (Marina or Marcus, Maurizio (m4u)) We will most likely need to ping maintenance team prior making the QU media (QU1 was published last week). Just to make sure that we won't miss a upcoming fix that could affect the install media. 15.2 - no updates were released for past 6-7 days. No Factory reviews needed for Backports SP3, SP4 Any more (Leap and Backports are the same nowadays). Display status of SLES updates to community (https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/30). Marina: small step, still internal discussion ongoing. Firefox update planned to be released in next days. Should fix weird webrtc issues. Marcus: we will need to add llvm12 to Leap 15.3 - chromium doesn't build with older versions. ## Adrian - openSUSE Step Doug: is there a changelog? Adrian: there is a chance that we have the changelog Adrian: not a proper setup in a way that would provide sufficient data to Doug. Raised concern about Backports 15 SP4 builds never finishing. Adrian will look into it. ## Pavel Not available ### Symlinks ad-hoc topic openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso.sha256 (manual) openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso (manual) openSUSE-Leap-15.3-2-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso (automaticly created by publisher) but still is renamed to 15.3-DVD... Current workflow after the QU images are pushed to stage: cd /srv/ftp-stage/pub/opensuse/distribution/leap/15.3/iso for f in *-{aarch64,ppc64le,s390x,x86_64}-Media.iso; do mv $f `echo $f | sed "s/15.3-2/15.3"/`; done for f in *-Current.*; do mv $f `echo $f | sed "s/15.3-2/15.3"/`; done Duplicate purpose of -Media and -Current Decision: Adrian will look into the configuration of publisher and we'll consider drop one of duplicate symlinks

Part of the puzzle: It seems the relsync / update_release_notes config doesn't have 15.3 yet, therefore I opened https://gitlab.infra.opensuse.org/infra/salt/-/merge_requests/518 (only accessible via heroes VPN). @Lubos: please also see footnote [1] I'm not really familiar with update_release_notes, therefore I'd prefer to get the addition reviewed before I deploy it ;-) Especially because a quick manual test ended up with Could not find a valid RPM at https://build.opensuse.org/public/build/ Documentation:Auto/openSUSE_Leap_15.3/x86_64/_repository/release-notes- openSUSE after 3 attempts - giving up. (+ some scary error messages which became https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/102981) Note that https://build.opensuse.org/public/build/Documentation:Auto/ openSUSE_Leap_15.3/x86_64/_repository/ only lists release-notes- openSUSE-L153.rpm. OTOH, the 15.2 variant has release-notes-openSUSE-L152.rpm and release- notes-openSUSE.rpm (with completely different size and mtime, the one with -L152 is newer, but based on the error with 15.3, I'd guess that the old one without -L152 gets published on doc.o.o - oops, did I just find a bug instead of fixing one?) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] If this is really the reason, please also add an item to your release checklist: [ask the heroes to] add $new_leap_version to salt/profile/documentation/files/releasenotes The perfect time to do this is after adding release-notes-openSUSE_Leap_$version in Documentation:Auto.
