on the way of configuring the online update, I had a message I could not copy :-(, but saying something like "service no more available" (message from the server, I think) an other try gave a correct hit. anything to do? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Use a pen and paper to write the message down.

Then look in the logfiles. Without any real information, answers will just be guesses. I guess the server was not available. The cause can be anything and it is even less possible to say way without a real feedback. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste, was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit. I did with no luck I write this in case somebody else have such an experience, there is not enough data for a bug report jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Which log file did you look in? The ones in /var/log/YaST2 is usually a good bet, specifically y2log

The only obvious thing I can think of is that you received a 503, service unavailable, from the server. But y2log should be able to tell you

on this one. but fresh suse install use it a lot, so it's very difficult to see the good part. If I have this problem again, I will try to rename the log file before to have an empty one :-)

now that I understand a little better the thing, I have the same idea. the servers I see in the logs (and not in YUM) are perfectly working servers, but may be overloaded at the time I think we can stop the thread here as long as there are no new info thanks all jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

tail -n 100 y2log > log2check If you do that the moment you see the error, you should be able to read the last 100 lines (should be enough). Otherwise a cp. -- houghi http://houghi.org http://www.plainfaqs.org/linux/ http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

the moment you have the error, you may not have time to do so, busy as your are trying to fix the problem... problem is such bugs come at moment you need the box to work :-( jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Then the posting should not have been here. I asume here that people are not working on production machines, but on Factory, Alpha, Beta or RC machines that are there for testing. suse-linux-e might then have been the better option. ;-) -- houghi http://houghi.org http://www.plainfaqs.org/linux/ http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

Use a pen and paper to write the message down. ;-)
Use a digi cam to shoot the screen. SuSE support will also get excited when receiving videos showing the full reproduction ;-) Or press the "Print" key with various Alt, Ctrl, Shift combinations. Regards, Ulrich
