[opensuse-factory] Clickpad regression in Tumbleweed kernel
Hi, With the standard 11.4 kernal the touchpad on my hp dmz1 worked perfectly, but the upgrade to the 2.6.39-30 kernal in Tumbleweed breaks it. I lose right click and click + drag functionality. There are quite a few reports around the net of problems with this trackpad (e.g., http://bigbrovar.aoizora.org/index.php/2011/05/24/better-clickpad-support-fo...), but it worked great out of the box with openSUSE 11.4. Maybe there is some patch that did not get applied to the kernel in Tumbleweed? The only openSUSE bug report I could find that looks related is https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661427. Sure, I'll do that. Should it be filed against 11.4? I don't see a Tumbleweed or Factory product on Bugzilla. Thanks!

Sorry to bother the list with this again. I've filled a bug report (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=698412) but there has been no movement. I believe this is a simple issue of a patch not being applied to the Tumbleweed kernel updates. Googleing for "linux kernel synaptics clickpad" will bring up a list of patches and bug reports. I'd really like to get these patches applied back to the Tumbleweed kernel, because the updated video driver works much better. Right now I have to choose whether I want my video to run smoothly or if I want to be able to right-click. Thanks, Ista On Mon, Jun 6, 2011 at 7:28 PM, Greg KH <gregkh@suse.de> wrote:

I know of no patch that somehow got dropped, it's probably due to some other change in the input layer in this area. It will be handled soon, sorry for the delay, lots of people are traveling at the moment.

Do you have a pointer to a specific patch that you feel should be applied? If so, please add it to the bug and we will be glad to look at it. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

OK, I've added links on the bug report to patches that might address this problem. Thanks! Ista

Quick update on the clickpad situation. I have finally found that booting with psmouse.proto=exps give me a workable clickpad. This has to count as a work-around, since I lose the ability to configure the clickpad through the KDE systemsettings panel, but it does result in a functional trackpad.
