Comparing a full system with an Alpha, might not be correct, but i want to write down what i notice anyway ;-) Release notes in 10.2 tell about having more OS on one pc, and how to adapt grub. (it does not work, when 10.2 is installed after 10.3) All entries are there, but 10.3 does not boot. I got it partialy booted up, but the partitions where not integer, so i gave up. (might be not wise to install alpha's with many partitions.) When installing 10.3 after 10.2, the 10.2 entry dissappears ( i did not try to get the entry back, i just finished to re-install 10.3Alpha4.) Parsing the meta-data has been improved remarkable! My compliments ;-) The use of Yast feels more smooth in common. (why the OK button in the middle of the screen, to push at the end of an install?) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We allready know the everlasting dissapointment with the music: *No* music, which is so f***ing boaring, and also the ways to get support from earlier versions are cut off fully, by unsolvable deps, hopefully this is only because of the 'alpha' stage of things.. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- KDE4 Cardgames are horrible, i hope this is an alpha version also... Nice that the cards resize when resizing the window, but the graphics are very ugly, compared with the ones we are used to. Installing is smooth, timing is correct now. I like the built-in 3D aktivation option, sax2 testing a changed config works, when just adapting the screensize from the pulldownmenu, does not change the actual size, it has to be adapted again on the desktop. Overall feeling is that the os is faster. Ram usage booted up system: 512MB, and slightly climbing...during installing: 1074MB The floppydrive light stays on, even there is no disk in the drive. The firewall still does not open lan without moving the network adapter to the internal zone, but i have not noticed any unwanted traffic, since i did this in 10.2 a few months ago. I do not like the way my ide-drives are shown as scsi-sata drives, and the unnessesary text in /etc/fstab i dislike very much. Not only that, but the backwards incompatability causes a lot of trouble, as seen daily in the mailinglist. Apart from these little things, i like it. ;-) - -- Have a nice day, M9.
