If you insert an audio CD under KDE, you have the choice between kscd and kaffeine. kscd only works if you have a connection between your CD drive and your motherboard/soundcard. Which is the reason we'll drop kscd in the future. Greetings, Stephan

I know the Problem, with the connection between the CD and motherboard ;) ,but KsCD also don't work with a cable :(. That's not true. If you go to the configuration Options of KSCD you can turn on using direct digital output associated with a CD-Rom/DVD drive, which doesn't need the audio cable connected to the Sound Card or Motherboard from the drive.

well, that's harder to work out... Do you think it might be a kernel problem, maybe the module for the motherboard chipset, or audio module? Or could it be a simple KSCD configuration problem? Does it work with kaffeine, amarok or xmms? Could it be a Intel hardware problem? It's only with the Intel ICH5-8 that it doesn't work? -- Flávio Moringa Technical Consultant ______________________________________________ Caixa Mágica Software Energia Open Source ______________________________________________ Av. das Forças Armadas, 125 - 4º A Edificio Open, 1600-079, Lisboa, PORTUGAL Tel. +351 217 921 260 Fax. +351 217 921 261 http://www.caixamagica.pt Email: flavio.moringa@caixamagica.pt

it works with all, only KsCD is broken, I have so "stupid" people in my near, that say, I have worked before with this program and this is small and clear to manage, why it is no more working with my new computer ;). -- mit freundlichen Grüßen / best Regards, Günther J. Niederwimmer

Unless I'm wrong, the latest generation of drives has a two-pin digital output which again requires a cable. The advantage would be: You get full digital quality without making the CPU busy (assuming you have a receiver for SPDIF). So I wouldn't call it "direct digital output". The CPU will request digital audio data from the drive and process those before sending them to the audio device. Regards, Ulrich

That is what is broken on some machines. For some people, the "direct digital" checkbox is not present when it should be. -- Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) "I love virtuosity. I love danger." -Pierre Boulez, 2005
