[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - virtualbox-host-kmp-desktop
Hello all, I'm using tumbleweed and would like to install virtualbox, however it depends on virtualbox-host-kmp-desktop version 4.0.4_k2.6.37.1_1.2-1.6.1 which in turn depends on kernel-desktop-base version 2.6.37.6-0.5.1. However tumbleweed has kernel-desktop version 2.6.39.3-37.1 which means I'd need to downgrade my kernel to use virtualbox. Could tumbleweed provide a version of virtualbox for the newer kernels? I'm using this kernel: kernel-desktop-2.6.39.3-37.1.x86_64 I'm using this VirtualBox: VirtualBox-4.0-4.0.12_72916_openSUSE114-1.x86_64 I'm running openSUSE Tumbleweed. With that combo there's no need for supporting kmp RPMs Regards John -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I only see two versions of virtualbox available: 4.0.4-1.6.1 and 4.0.4-1.2.3 Do I need to add another repository? The only tumbleweed repo I've got right now is http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Tumbleweed/standard/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The repo from virtualbox.org (the Sun version) is here: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/opensuse/11.4/ Every now and then a new virtualbox version arrives there and comes in via zypper dup. So slick. Regards John -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
If you are using tumbleweed repo and you want to use also vbox, basically you have two options : 1, (as John suggest) remove old virtualbox provided by openSUSE add repo provided by oracle http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/opensuse/11.4/ and install vbox from oracle repo, kernel modules needed for proper vbox run, will be built automatically 2, add repo provided by openSUSE (vbox build against Tumbleweed): https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Virtualization%3AVirtualBox_... and install vbox from it (kmp modules are already built here) ... if you are interested why was vbox dropped from tumbleweed repo, read this thread: http://lists4.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2011-04/msg00018.html bye On Sun, Jul 24, 2011 at 2:31 PM, Jonas Gastal <jgastal@gmail.com> wrote:
