Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Due to a holiday on my part I had to skip the last two weekly reviews - which of course doe snot mean Tumbleweed went to sleep, it's just that it was given into the capable hand of Max Lin. I will include all the updates from the last three weeks this time, to get you an overview of what all happened. For this reason, I'll cover 10 snapshots: 0905, 0907, 0908, 0916, 0917, 0918, 0920, 0921, 0923 and 0925 The most noteworthy changes include: * Mozilla Firefox 68.1.0 & 69.0.1 * KDE Plasma 5.16.5 * KDE Frameworks 5.62.0 * KDE Applications 19.08.1 * Qt 5.13.1 * Linux kernel 5.2.14 * Mesa 19.1.7 * LibreOffice 6.3.2.2 * PulseAudio 13.0 * filesystem changes: /etc/cron.* will no longer be generally available. BuildRequire cron in your packages if you install files there (or better yet, migrate to systemd timers) Of course, a lot is still on the backlog and will hopefully find its way into Tumbleweed soon. The main topics in Staging currently are: * glibc 2.30: all issues observed in staging have been resolved, Snapshot 0927 and later should ship it * systemd 243 * Linux kernel 5.3.1 * poppler0.81.0: again breaking texlive * GStreamer 1.16.1 * KDE Plasma 5.17.0: current alphas are staged and being tested * A rework of the way we provide the 'Tumbleweed snapshot' to build against in OBS. Instead of twice copying binaries around inside OBS, we plan on changing the OBS setup to use DoD (Download On-Demand) for openSUSE:Factory/snapshot. For the users/developers, this should not bring any change, no repository reconfiguration is needed. But it helps in largely simplifying the way the sync is done AND it finally stops delete requests / multi-spec package changes to bleed into devel projects building against snapshots.
