[opensuse-factory] locking its deps no longer prevents replacement of FF3.6 with FF5
One might think this belongs in some other list because AFAICT FF3.6 is no longer available in 12.1. Nevertheless, those with the knowledge and the power to do anything should more likely see this than some post elsewhere. How is subject possible? I strongly object to UI changes that came about in FF4, and so enable the Mozilla repo and 'zypper al mozilla-xulrunner20 mozilla-js20' in 11.3, 11.4 & Tumbleweeds to prevent installation of FF post-3.6. This worked until about yesterday. Now FF5 installs anyway. How is one supposed to keep getting automatic upgrades from the 3.6 branch if locking out dep 20s doesn't work? Are required js and xulrunner now built into FF5 instead of it using support packages, like a static build? Also, shouldn't dup be required instead of up to get 3.6 branch replaced by 5.0 branch? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I don't know because I don't know enough about zypp. AFAIK zypper will always select the newest version of a package unless you ask for a specific version-release.

Yes. The reason for doing the xulrunner split was that we had xulrunner anyway for embedding reasons and Firefox was using the same one. Now with the new fast release strategy for Firefox it's not possible to keep a xulrunner version updated every six weeks and break dependent packages all the time. So the split was reverted and Firefox is fully standalone besides NSPR and NSS requirements.
Also, shouldn't dup be required instead of up to get 3.6 branch replaced by 5.0 branch?
No, it's the same package with a higher version number. While I keep older versions alive in the same repository I have no real idea how to make sure that newer versions are not chosen for update automatically. This is more a package manager issue. Then your best option is doing a few customization steps and getting almost exactly the same UI than with 3.6 in FF4 and later. Sure, if you only have one or two profiles. What about those with 20 or 40 or more? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
