[opensuse-factory] Beta still not ready ;(
Hi, We can't release the beta as is, there are still some problems left that we can't release with. Xorg crashing during installation is the worst I guess. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Greetings, Stephan Installed beta1 using file:///home/dale/Downloads/openSUSE/openSUSE-KDE-LiveCD-i686-Build0309-Media.iso I didn't see the xorg crash until I rebooted after the install and had to do a hard shutdown and start. Other than that the installation was ok

Can you please check if KDE3 works well (install kdebase3-session package)? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
With respect to the request, given the current schedule slips, as a user I would prefer the valuable time of the packagers be spent in places OTHER than KDE3 where important work is needed. Is not KDE3 something that community volunteers should be handling, as opposed to SuSE-GmbH packagers ? Wrt the Beta not being ready and any follow-on effect. I know the original plan was no impact, but is it really necessary to stick to the 10-Nov public GM release date ? IMHO the more time for users to test the beta packaged version (delayed Milestone-6), the better. I prefer a later date to encourage more testing. Is a couple of week slip in the 10-Nov date that serious ? Lee On 09/27/2011 09:29 PM, Ilya Chernykh wrote:

I don't use any desktop. I would say any time spent on ked4 or gnome is just as wasted as you are saying time on kde3 would be. I want the grub & initrd & mdraid stuff improved a lot, not merely improved but made to work at all in the first place outside of the simplest single-drive, local console, desktop user scenario. We all have our priorities and they all somewhat differ from each others, and yours is not necessarily the only valid set. Frankly I have only seen valid points brought up by Ilya for why kde3 needs to be maintained at least for the moment, and none nearly as valid for why not. -- bkw On 9/27/2011 4:12 PM, oldcpu wrote:
