Well, I don't know. The last time, I've installed the drivers this way is a couple of years ago, since it is so easy to do it sanely. Meanwhile, they bravely compile on my local OBS for all interesting targets. That way, I know, where to expect havoc beforehand, and been able to supply Stefan fixes, if necessary.. The driver rpm compiles the modules during installation for every installed kernel.
iiuc, the problem with the NVxxx.run application is the new kernel api changed and the run files no longer matches, needs to be patched. I am guessing the generated rpm is missing adaptation to the changed api. But all beyond me and no time to actually learn it.

Additionally, with having the nvidia sources checked out, you can check, which driver supports your model with:
# fetch device id $ hwinfo --gfxcard | grep -E \\\<Device Device: pci 0x1187 "GK104 [GeForce GTX 760]"
# query driver $ grep 0x1187 nvidia-gfx*/pci_ids* nvidia-gfxG03/pci_ids-340.107:0x1187 GeForce GTX 760 nvidia-gfxG03/pci_ids-340.107.new:0x1187 GeForce GTX 760 nvidia-gfxG04/pci_ids-390.132:0x1187 GeForce GTX 760 nvidia-gfxG05/pci_ids-440.44:0x1187 GeForce GTX 760
This one is supported by the last 3 driver generations. You would prefer the newest, of course.
It would be a good idea to clean the system beforehand. The run modules provide an --uninstall option, btw.

pardon, I seem to have inadvertently sent this unfinish msg. the rpm installs but does not record the install to the rpmdb and updating rpmdb fails to show the rpm. And it is not possible to uninstall the rpm, if it in fact ever really installs. zypper -v in XX.rpm appears to install and will uninstall, but the rpmdb never reports the rpm as being installed. And I can only achieve 1280x1024 resolution which is not good enough and have returned to kernel-default 5.4.14-2 I have removed the rpm package from Download but can provide it if needed for any reason. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Huh? That's impossible. Maybe the name in the database is different than what you expect; you can list them all sorted by date and see the last one. If still missing, you know the drill: rebuild database. :-( -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

did that too, reinstalled, wash, rinse, do again, no solution. rpm -qa --last | head did not reveal the install nor did rpm -qi XX.rpm, nor can rpm remove it. zypper -v in XX.rpm appears to work but zypper se -si XX.rpm does not show install, yet zypper -v rm XX.rpm works but only if zypper does the install. Install with rpm -Uvh XX.rpm does not report completeion but finishes w/o error and "rpm -qi XX.rpm" lists the data but shows as not installed. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

you also don't use debian, makes for a DULL life instead :) please do not make unfounded declarations about Tumbleweed usefulness. I have used Tw for many years w/o finding problems *directly* attributable to Tw. Present problem is api change (iiuc) to kernel-default and no updated driver and described manipulations do not solve. Something is still missing from the equasion. More likely attributable to Nancy Pelosi's spending billions of dollars trying to unseat President Trump and not attending to the business of govern{ment, ing} and still failing. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I did not :-) You may be guessing what I might say, but I have not said it. Anyway, I have never said anything against its "usefulness", though. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)
