[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2 RC1 balks at mounting existing Window partitions but installs and runs all OS OK
Hello all I had Win7 running in a 30 Go (on /dev/sda1 partiton), WinXP (on dev/sda3) and Leap 42.2 B3 (on /dev/sda5) running OK on an OLD T60 Thinkpad laptop but I want to test installing Leap 42.2 RC1* under Win10 so I formatted /dev/sda1 to ntfs to wipe Win7 and installed Win10. [*] openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64-Build0245-Media.iso Note : the table partition type of this hard drive is msdos not gpt Win 10 booted OK Next I installed Leap 42.2 RC1. During the installation phase Leap 42.2 RC1 balked at mounting the /dev/sda1 (Win10) et /dev/sda3 (Win) partitions. # Win10 http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_191753.jpg # WinXP http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_191839.jpg Please note that the language and keyboard settings were both set to French I hit the "Continue" button both times and Leap 42.2 installed and booted OK. # Leap 42.2 B3 boot menu http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_194118.jpg AFAIR, the 2 Windows OS were cleanly unmounted during their last shutdowns. This was a fresh install and Leap 42.2 B3 booted fine as per usual. It installed 3 or 4 security updates on the first reboot. I can ssh into it from another box Win10 and WinXP also boot ok Other remarks # As I said before I installed Leap 42.2 B3 with the language and keyboard settings both set to French When I tried typping to test that the keyboard was properly mapped - the setup changed to another (very foreign!) language setting. This is definitely unexpected behaviour (but I believe this is a known problem). # Some addition info linux-osqg:~ # fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 465.8 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: dos Disk identifier: 0x000bf3a8 Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type /dev/sda1 2048 62910463 62908416 30G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 * 62910464 934805503 871895040 415.8G 5 Extended /dev/sda3 934805504 976773119 41967616 20G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda5 62912512 125820927 62908416 30G 83 Linux /dev/sda6 125822976 880797649 754974674 360G 83 Linux /dev/sda7 880797696 886562815 5765120 2.8G 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda8 886564864 934805503 48240640 23G 83 Linux Regards James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Unfortunately this is a new Window's 8 and 10 feature. To make rebooting quicker, it now longer unmounts drives during shutdown by default. On your Windows install you will have to disable fast startup. Google "disable fast startup" and you will get lots of hits. Or just use http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.h... Greg -- Greg Freemyer Hillary says Trump is the only Republican she can beat, why should we vote for him? Just guessing: Windows 10 has fast startup enabled. Please have a look at (for example) http://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startu... It has not really shut down and the filesystems are not really unmounted from Windows.
