[opensuse-factory] YaST text interface colors (ncurses)
Are there still YST text interface users out there? I just install 12.3 Beta1 (build 348) in vbox (on 12.2). First part was pretty ok (blueish), but now the second part is rather green: Some text are unreadable, and after staring more than a minute at it, I have the feeling that I'm somehow blinded. Trying to attach a screen shot: Do we want to keep it that way? If yes, there need to be an easy way to switch back to the traditional blue skin. -- Karl Eichwalder SUSE LINUX Products GmbH R&D / Documentation Maxfeldstraße 5 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

Yes. I use it almost exclusively, even on gui desktops.

I'd like that. Hi, I see last change in ncurses plugin 6 months ago, so I am not sure who change it. But you can set style on your own - http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:YaST_tricks#Set_your_favorite_color_theme Also there is how to create own style if you are interested. And sources are open, so feel free if you create great style to create pull request back - https://github.com/libyui/libyui-ncurses Josef -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

That how to is not toward the average user, it would be much better if Yast ncurces interface could read a color scheme config file that would eliminate the recompile part away Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Blind people.

We should actually check if the installation via braille still works. OTOH, it is a tradition that it's always broken by a late RC due to color scheme changes... :-) -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I use it sometimes when I yast-through-SSH (X-through-SSH is also an option, but it's a painful one) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

There are still situations when X can't be used. For example, I manage a dedicated host that's physically about 1,500 miles away. I can log into the box with ssh and forward the X11 ports, but the round-trip packet times of about 65-msec make X painfully slow. X11is a rather chatty protocol and requires lots of packets flying thither and yon. The curses version of yast works just fine. There are other cases where I have to leapfrog through a single ssh server. Policy requires that ports can not be forwarded in this case, thus X11 won't work. Yast, in either form, is one of openSuSE's big selling points!
