[opensuse-factory] zypper activity before downloading

When running a zypper dup, the questions for dependency resolution and for the licenses happen pretty quickly (< 30s), but what is it doing at 100% CPU for 10-15min(!) before starting to download the first package? 10-15 min? Wow, never seen that - what it's doing after having a solution and downloading is calculating the installation order. You can see what zypper is doing pretty clearly at /var/log/zypper.log Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Should have said that it's a 450MHz box, but it's not memory bound. As I read the log, about 2min to order.init(), then 13min for SET NEW media, or about 15min without user-visible action. With the new light speed :)) of zypper that seemed out of order. Even on semi-recent hardware that's still a significant time though. Had that too, and it seems to be gone for me with the latest rpms. :-) Bye, Steve --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

This is supposed to be fixed in AFAIK 4.2.10; for sure in 4.3.x. Your libzypp version is listed in the log: # grep ZConfig.cc /var/log/zypper.log ... [zypp] ZConfig.cc(Impl):153 libzypp: 4.3.1 built Mar 3 2008 13:22:22 ... If it occurs with a recent version, please file a bugreport. -- cu, Michael Andres +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Key fingerprint = 2DFA 5D73 18B1 E7EF A862 27AC 3FB8 9E3A 27C6 B0E4 +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Michael Andres YaST Development ma@novell.com SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany, ++49 (0)911 - 740 53-0 +------------------------------------------------------------------+ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yeah, I've seen similar behavior like a week ago. Stano --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
