[opensuse-factory] VirtualBox 5.2.6 video capture is broken - possibly Leap 15.0 is affected
Hi, all! Today I faced a VirtualBox bug while trying to record my guest machine screen: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=85660#p414168 Actually, I was not using Leap 15.0, but Windows 7 SP 1, I was at work. But since I was using the same version of VirtualBox that is to come with Leap 15.0 - VirtualBox 5.2.6 - I thought it was a good idea to warn. Searching on: https://software.opensuse.org/package/virtualbox I found VirtualBox 5.2.6 is already on Tumbleweed. I'm now using Leap 42.3 and I'm not able to test VirtualBox 5.2.6. Someone using Leap 15.0 or Tumbleweed could confirm the video capture feature is buggy? It seems a fix is on the way: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/17307#comment:6 Cheers! Antonio, Thanks for the heads-up regarding this issue. It is possible that you might be able to play those video files with VLC. Using the links that you provided, I am currently rebuilding the Factory version with this problem fixed. From there, a corrected version will be pushed to Tumbleweed and Leap 15.0. The bugzilla entry is boo #1081281. Larry -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

No, sadly I'm not able to play them using VLC, as I reported on the VirtualBox forum... socratis suggested using MediaInfo (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo), I'm going to try that: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=85660&start=15#p414178

Larry and Antonino, This bug has been affecting me. I noticed it last month when I tried to record using Tumbleweed. I saw that the bug was being discussed on the Virtualbox forum, so I knew a fix was coming soon. I need this feature to record Virtualbox for a business project. Thank you for expediting the fix! I expect the fix in 5.2.8, but I do not know when Oracle will do that release. In any case, we will have it in TW and Leap 15.0 once the fix propagates through the system. I only read the VirtualBox developers mailing list, thus I did not see the discussion on the forum. If such a situation happens again, please drop me a note, or post it here.
