openSUSE Release Engineering Meeting 28.09.2022

All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting Meeting is hosted here https://meet.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ## Attendees bittin, Sarah, Guillaume, Axel, Richard, Adrian ## Leap OutOfOffice - Today is Public Holiday in CZ JeOS -> Minimal rename WIP https://github.com/openSUSE/get-o-o/pull/123 Respin of 15.4 (Early Oct) - autobuild has no objection for CR of DVD from build power perspective, I'm bit worried about testing effort, but then we provide livecds this way for ages Leap Micro 5.3 - no specific update openSUSE-repos https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/91 https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-repos/ https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/Base:System/openSUSE-repos Github issues for Richard, Max, Dominique to review my repo-id suggestions for respective distributions Pending initial submission to Factory, sr of as it is in Base:System gets autorejected by staging bot. Richard suggested skipping tue usual staging work and perhaps copy it as 000openSUSE-repos or similar. Prepping on openSUSE Asia summit workshop https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AGKijKpKiJCB616-bHVoNQuhWHpQLHPWCb3m... + VMs and possibly pre-recorded demo to avoid last minute it-worked- before-s The -v2 discussion on Factory is bit heated up. ## openSUSE Tumbleweed - Dominique Sick, Richard Covering openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 215 failed, 74 unresolvable https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz * grep 3.8: egrep and fgrep are deprecated in favor of grep -E and grep -F (please keep on fixing scripts with warnings) * GNOME 43 released 1 day after upstream * LLVM 15: staged in M (stuck), mostly ok, but postgresql fails to build with this * KDE 5.26 Beta in stagings, looking good so should go green as soon as it's released upstream and out to TW soon after * build is failing to build (ironic) - fix otw in A (should be checked in today), making stagings somewhat more 'fun' to manage meanwhile ## Richard (MicroOS) Various MicroOS Desktop branding fixes (including fixing the firstboot wizard for GNOME 43)(on the way out) Distrobox as default for MicroOS Desktop otw, toolbox still for regular MicroOS MicroOS Disk story - research ongoing - Lots of experimentation with FDE/Split disk configuration, such as transactional / on SSD and /var, /home, and similar on a HDD.Split Disk Conclusion: YaST does not have the sufficent support for subvolume mountpoints to do this in a supportable way. Full Disk Encryption (FDE) wTPM Status: YaST doesn't support LUKS2 sufficiently for defining FDE out of the box, and Grub is very broken with LUKS2 (but work is ongoing to correct that). Meanwhile experiments continue to see if I can force kiwi to build a working MicroOS Desktop (GNOME) image with FDE out of the box. MicroOS Desktop KDE has had some community efforts to fix it, but meanwhile it has been weeks without a working installation media (YaST crashes to Ruby debugger). SFaulken (contactable via the regular MicroOS Desktop Telegram/Matrix group) would probably appreciate help before talk about dropping the KDE flavour starts again. ## Max Not Available ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * Rolling * armv7: kdump not available for armv7, so openSUSE- MicroOS:RaspberryPi2 image is unresolvable now. * armv6 not in good shapes, mainly due to rust not building (build hangs in OBS, so armv6 build of rust has been disabled). See https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/60605. Fabian is testing a possible fix. Leap: * No update ALP: * SUSE:ALP: SR to build new image recipes for aarch64 is pending: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1006100 (hopefully merged this week) ## Sarah - s390 Open Source Day was successfully. We had an assigned Mentor with experience with Kernel contributions. All SRs for packages during this Hackathon were accepted. KDE re-enabled for s390x and multiple Python packages I had an additional video interview at the Open Mainframe Summit about the reasons for our Linux Distributions Working Group. I received also the question, how the maintenance for the other architectures are handled. I gave the hint, that IBM did not replace their retired employee for Power (Fedora and openSUSE). This conference was also a success. Tumbleweed and Leap are blocked because of failing tests. (TW looking better then Leap seems YaST related) Newer LinuxONE is out since last week speak with Ino to replace the old hardware to new hardware? snapshots were blocked during the weekend as openQA for s390x was down DimStar: s390x is rolling again. Snapshot 0823 has been published (ahead of intel x86_64 thats on 0822). DimStar: same issue again, we have an issue with workers lkocman: to reach out to Sarah and Ihno (these issues are related to openQA - https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/115583 / https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1202821). Collected tasks for Open Source Day Mentees (a lot of package updates at the end of next week) Sarah has been nominated for a keynote Pannel Dicussion at the IBM Z day related to community contributions: https://www.ibm.com/community/z/ibm-zday-2022/ ## Doug (will be unreachable while traveling for the next week) Not available ## Dirk Not available ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling Not available ## Maintenance team (Marina or Marcus, Maurizio (m4u)) Not available ## Adrian - OBS Not available ## Open Floor No Topics -- Richard Brown Linux Distribution Engineer - Future Technology Team SUSE Software Solutions Germany GmbH, Frankenstraße 146, D-90461 Nuremberg, Germany (HRB 36809, AG Nürnberg) Managing Directors/Geschäftsführer: Ivo Totev, Andrew Myers, Andrew McDonald, Martje Boudien Moerman
