[opensuse-factory] Scanner problem / sane
When trying to scan with Kooka (as of the current beta version), the program complains that there is allegedly no Sane present. Wrong! Trying to remove and re-add the scanner with Yast2, I get the following error message: "Failed to reset SCSI scanner access permissions. The error message is: Der Dienst sane-dev existiert nicht" ("the service sane-dev does not exist"). Scanner is HP All in One via hpaio. Looks a bit like some resmgr/PolicyHit problem - output of y2log: 2006-11-05 11:30:21 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] Scanner.ycp:1234 Overview contents: [$["id":"autodetected_scanner:0", "rich_descr":"", "table_descr":["Nicht konfiguriert:", "Hewlett-Packard PSC 2100 Series USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x2811 [PSC 2100 Series]) at libusb:001:003"]], $["id":"active_scanner:0", "rich_descr":"", "table_descr":["hpaio", "hp PSC_2100_Series an hpaio:/usb/PSC_2100_Series?serial=MY37PG23VV4e"]]] 2006-11-05 11:30:22 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] scanner/dialogs.ycp:452 Ignoring unexpected returncode in OverviewDialog: `_hw_items 2006-11-05 11:30:23 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] scanner/dialogs.ycp:250 Selected item id in OverviewDialog: active_scanner:0 2006-11-05 11:30:23 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] scanner/dialogs.ycp:310 Selected backend to be deleted (i.e. deactivated) is: hpaio 2006-11-05 11:30:24 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] Scanner.ycp:261 Executing bash commandline: /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/deactivate_scanner_backend hpaio 2006-11-05 11:30:24 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] Scanner.ycp:261 Executing bash commandline: /usr/bin/lpstat -v | /bin/egrep -q ': hp:/|: hpfax:/' 2006-11-05 11:30:28 <1> linux(15845) [YCP] Scanner.ycp:261 Executing bash commandline: /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/determine_active_scanners YCP

Please open a bugreport with the trace below. I think its a bug in the yast scanner module, which is not yet updated to the new way resmgr works. Ciao, Marcus

You use a new sane package with an old YaST scanner module. It is already fixed in the newest YaST scanner module. See the RPM changelogs. Nevertheless even the current YaST scanner module may be not yet 100% ready regarding newest kind of scanner access via HAL/resmgr. Note that when you use "factory" or "beta" packages, there are some inconsistencies (I cannot have all the scanner stuff updated at once). Don't use "factory" or "beta" packages when you need a stable system.
