Is there a reason that these lvm packages were installed when I upgraded to 20211201? libbd_lvm2 liblvm2cmd2_03 lvm2 lvm has not bee used or installed on this machine previously.

I've been removing them from mine. If you try removing them, and they are depends of some package, you should be able to find out what by attempting to remove them. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. udisks2 -> libblockdev -> libbd_lvm2 -> lvm2 libbd_lvm2 is plugin for libblockdev. The whole idea of having plugins is that they are optional. The plugin was made hard requirement for libblockdev in https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/932759. Because program lvm-cache-stats that supports only LVM did not work when lbbd_lvm2 was not present. Somehow it sounds backwards. libbd_lvm2 and lvm-cache-stats should probably supplement libblockdev and lvm2.
Thanks to both of you for your replies. I know I could remove ( or try to ) but I was interested in why all of the sudden lvm became required when I don't use it. Looks like there are 10 dependencies on those 3 packages now: zypper rm libbd_lvm2 liblvm2cmd2_03 lvm2 Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... The following 10 packages are going to be REMOVED: discover-backend-fwupd fwupd libbd_lvm2 libblockdev libfwupd2 libfwupdplugin2 liblvm2cmd2_03 lvm2 typelib-1_0-Fwupd-2_0 udisks2 10 packages to remove. After the operation, 13.1 MiB will be freed. Not a lot of disk space but I would prefer not to have stuff installed that I don't use. I think you're right about it sounding backwards...
