[opensuse-factory] syslog vs. journal
Hi, I'm wondering in which cases a syslog daemon is still required in 13.1 and beyond? On my new 13.1 system: Hygiea:~ # rpm -e rsyslog error: Failed dependencies: syslog is needed by (installed) syslog-service-2.0-772.1.2.noarch sysvinit(syslog) is needed by (installed) pcsc-lite-1.8.8-4.1.2.x86_64 sysvinit(syslog) is needed by (installed) cups-1.5.4-12.1.3.x86_64 So at least cups and pcsc-lite are explicitely requiring syslog and I wonder if that is still valid? To resolve the conflict, install package systemd-logger, that will satify the dependencies. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

ok, please let me clarify: I just did a click through install and ended up with this. As the maintainer of pcsc-lite I'm interested to know if (and when) a dependency to sysvinit(syslog) makes sense at all. It wasn't introduced by me and I don't understand why it should be needed. It did made sense it in the past..in the pre-systemd era.. nowadays however *NONE* of this sysvinit(syslog) virtual provides on any package other than the relevant syslog implementations make any sense whatsoever, you can safely remove it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
