Hi, I'd like to propose following packages to be included in Factory. ack, remind, urlview, wyrd, cgdb, vim-plugins Details: =================================== ack (utilities) =================================== Ack is a tool like grep, designed for programmers with large trees of heterogeneous source code. It is written purely in Perl, and takes advantage of the power of Perl's regular expressions. The package has been around at least since December 2006. It seems it is used by quite a lot of people; see testimonials at http://betterthangrep.com/ The upstream homepage is http://betterthangrep.com/ Upstream is active, ack users are too: http://groups.google.com/group/ack-users I'm not aware of any security issues. License: quoting ack(1) manpage:
COPYRIGHT & LICENSE Copyright 2005-2009 Andy Lester.
This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of either:
· the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 1, or (at your option) any later version, or · the Artistic License version 2.0.
=================================== remind (utilities) =================================== Remind is a sophisticated calendar and alarm program. It includes the following features: * A sophisticated scripting language and intelligent handling of exceptions and holidays. * Plain-text, PostScript and HTML output. * Timed reminders and pop-up alarms. * A friendly graphical front-end for people who don't want to learn the scripting language. * Facilities for both the Gregorian and Hebrew calendars. The program has been around since 1988. The upstream homepage is http://www.roaringpenguin.com/products/remind Upstream is active, released 3 versions since I have packaged it this January I'm not aware of any security issues. Expected users are power users who want flexible calendar solution that works in CLI. License is GPLv2 =================================== wyrd (utilities) =================================== Wyrd is a text(curses)-based front-end to Remind. The first entry in changelog is from April 2005. Concerning testing: I use it quite often without any issues. The upstream homepage is http://pessimization.com/software/wyrd/, last version was released in October, 2010. I found one CVE related to wyrd: CVE-2008-0806. This issue was fixed by Debian security team and included in upstream. License is GPLv2. =================================== urlview (utilities) =================================== Urlview presents a menu of all URLs from a given text file (e.g., a mail). The user may then view the information located on those URLs. It has been around at least since 1997, it works fine for me. It used to be part of the distribution up to 11.1, then it was moved to Contrib, now I'd like to move it back. It does not seem that there is anything like true upstream homepage, but it can be found in the mutt contrib: ftp://ftp.mutt.org/pub/mutt/contrib/urlview-0.9.README I'm not aware of any security issues. Expected users are those who use mutt. License is GPLv2. =================================== cgdb (devel:tools) =================================== CGDB is a curses (terminal-based) interface to the GNU Debugger (GDB). The primary feature of CGDB is the constant presence of a source display, updated as the program executes, to help keep you focused while debugging. The interface is inspired by the classic Unix text editor, vi. The first entry in NEWS file, which has also a date attached, is from 2003. The package used to be in openSUSE distribution up to 11.1, then it was dropped (maintainer missing?), lived in Contrib and now I propose to move it back to the distribution. Upstream homepage: http://cgdb.sourceforge.net/, last version was released in January 2010. I don't know of any security issues with this package. License is GPLv2. =================================== vim-plugins (editors) =================================== vim-plugins is a package that eases installation of various vim plugins via package manager. It currently contains following plugins: vim-plugin-quilt-0.9.6-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-taglist-4.5-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-latex-20100129-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-NERDcommenter-2.2.2-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-a-2.18-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-bufexplorer-7.2.6-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-align-35.41-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-tlib-0.36-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-calendar-2.1-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-utl-2.0-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-zoomwin-23-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-searchcomplete-1.1-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-snipmate-0.83-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-tregisters-0.2-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-NERDtree-4.1.0-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-colorschemes-1.0-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-multiplesearch-1.3-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-matchit-1.13.2-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-locateopen-1.3-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-gitdiff-2-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-matrix-1.10-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-supertab-1.0-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-vimwiki-0.9.9-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-diffchanges-0.2.6-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-minibufexpl-6.3.2-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-project-1.4.1-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-colorsel-20051121-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-tselectfiles-0.10-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-tselectbuffer-0.6-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-gnupg-3026-1.noarch.rpm vim-plugin-showmarks-2.2-1.noarch.rpm Most of the packaged plugins come from http://vim.org/scripts. The package has been maintained in Contrib for some time, now I would like to move it to Factory. The plugins have various licenses: please see the specfile. =============== Please let me know if I forgot to include some necessary information. I have maintained these packages in Contrib for some time, so - if accepted to Factory - maintenance in Factory should not be much different. Anyway, if somebody is interested in helping out (updating, testing, bugfixes), I'll gladly add him/her as comaintainer Petr -- Petr Uzel IRC: ptr_uzl @ freenode

<snip> Yes, it would be nice. I personally use ack and cgdb and both work good. in vim-plugins I am missing rails plugin, which also work quite good for me - http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1567 Josef -- Josef Reidinger Appliance Toolkit team maintainer of perl-Bootloader, yast2-bootloader and parts of webyast and SLMS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
