I'm not sure if it's really a Beta / Factory issue (same in 11.0 final) but something has changed since 10.3...
It seems so. My graphic cards, all nvidia, are hotter in 11.1 than in 11.0, but to make sure I have to go and make more tests.
I can't say about earlier as only 10.3 is on laptop and it has ATI chipset.
For time being I have to play gently to prevent more damage. I have 64 bit computer out of commision until I can replace motherboard, and it quit after graphic showed some irregularities. I shut down computer, but it never booted again. Testing pretty barebone configuration with add on graphic card didn't helped to see at least some portion of the boot.
I'm not very sad about that as it was anyway time for upgrade, but besides known problems that nvidia has with manufacturing, I have feeling that they add up pushing chips beyond actual technical capabilities.
I'm currently using nv driver, but heatsink is still hotter than I feel comfortable. If I can't keep hand on it for more than a few seconds, it is not good.
I added a fan to one of my nvidia graphics cards (a 5200 which didn't come with one) and it ran much cooler and more stable too. The fan came from a dead PSU but they are easy enough to buy new. Can make things noisy though... I run 11.0 with a fanless 8600GT using nvidia proprietary driver. Don't seem to have any noticable heat issues or anything and I'm running 5 HDD's in it with a quad core.
