Hi, Boot from CD1 Choose "Installation" Press ESC ... watch the messages ... no errors Language "Deutsch" Check CD ... ok Accept License Modus: "Neuinstallation" (fresh install) Desktop: KDE Adjusted partition selection (these partitions exists before install started, but yast want's to use the /home partition as new root...so I adjusted it) hda1 ext2 /boot hda2 xfs / hda3 swap hda4 /home Software selection: - conflicts on kdeaddons3-kicker kdeaddons3-konqueror deselected. - select "All of KDE": kdeaddons3-kate -kicker -konqueror -kontact -sound deselected. (formatting hd, installing packages, having a nice cup of tea) Reboot from hd, press ESC, watching the messages, no errors. Please insert CD2,3,4,5 Network configuration: firewall deactivated no nics found (there are two) no DSL, no ISDN, no Modem (ok, I dont have these devices) continue without any changes local (etc/passwd) create user, reuse HOME-dir Release Notes Hardware configuration: - Warning: TV cards can not be checked. - Graphics/Monitor correct detected - Sound: not detected continue without any changes Done. X did not came up: fc-cache -f Reboot. KDE is up and runnning...US-Keyboard...logout...rm -rf ~/.kde...login...still US-Keyboard Changed Keyboard layout in kcontrol...logout...login...US-Keyboard. Well...vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf Looks funny: Lot's of "vmware" entries init 3 sax2 -l Dialog unuseable...positioned at -(width/2) -(height/2) sax -l -m 0=radeon [OK] vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf change monitor and resolution :wq init 5 -> resolution 640x480 vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf deleted all Option ... in Section Device CTRL-ALT-BKSPACE Graphics works (well, no DRI) yast2-hardware-detection not installed. This installation was done on another machine than in my first posting. -- mdc
