[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the Week 2015/36
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, I think summer holiday is still there, we 'only' had three snapshots this week :) In Tumbleweed, the biggest changes for this week are: ===================================================== * Perl 5.22 is released. This was a long lasting effort in stagings, and many packages needed to be fixed. And as many of you realized, there is still a lot not working (packages that are not part of the test coverage). Good candidates to look up here can be found at: https://goo.gl/iIRxHI * Plasma 5.4 has been checked in to openSUSE:Factory, but there is not yet a Tumbleweed release available. One issue identified is that the Plasma desktop now wants to require 'catdoc', which is a Tk/Tcl app. Tcl/Tk adds considerable to the size of the LiveCDs and they explode... The KDE Team promised to change the dependency to catdoc to a pure recommendation instead of a requirement... then we should be able to pass on here again. * RPM is newly linked against liblua5.3 instead of the outdated liblua5.1. What is pending for Tumbleweed ============================== * systemd. I wish I could finally take this off the list, but progress seems rather slow with getting the needed fixes together. I blame the good weather and still partially holiday season. NEvertheless, just today we have received an additional fix that might finally solve the issues. * libQt 5.5.0 is also still pending as it breaks libyui-qt. I *think* the yast team fixed this in git, but apparenly nobody submitted the fix to openSUSE:Factory; that's where we'd need though. * KDE Applications 15.08.0 are being staged and tested. * An update to NCurses 6.0 is pending ( https://build.opensuse.org/project/staging_projects/openSUSE:Factory/A ). There are a couple failures as a consequence here. Help is welcome to get the rest fixed. * Kernel 4.2 is also pending in a staging. This might be a 'tricky' update especially for users of the NVidia binary blob. Once this hits the repos, those users might want to block this kernel for now. Although we're officially 'on our own' if we use third party kernel drivers, thanks a lot for pointing out such problems in advance. It seems the following patch need to be applied in the 4.2 kernel to make it work again https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/tj/wq.git/commit/?h=for-4.3&id=... -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

FYI, that patch has been pushed to the 4.2-git series. It will be in kernel 4.3. There are also some changes in the 4.2 kernel that affected VirtualBox. Obviously, all out-of-kernel drivers might be affected. Those problems were fixed by Oracle and pushed in VB 5.0.2. That version is now available in Factory/Tumbleweed/Leap 42.1. I'm told qt 5.5 should fix my 20-45 second login time and windows not remembering their position. I would be very thankful to whomever pushes the fix. :) -- Jimmy On Mon, Sep 7, 2015 at 3:43 PM, Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> wrote:
