[opensuse-factory] Zenupdater unable to solve dependencies
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, best wishes... After reorganising my hdd, according to the new expectations, i Installed 10.2 from the retail dvd, i got for testing, subject still the same as before... I attached the logs to Bug #230687. Since there was improvement, i decided to stay a while with the zenupdater. It looks good, takes not that much time anymore, but if it stays like this, it is useless. Is it possible, to let it install the updates where the dependencies are fullfilled, and leave those which are unfullfilled? Or is SuSE gonna drop the updater? In your case I suspect you installed a 64bit MozillaFirefox-translations and the 32bit MozillaFirefox and it blows up a bit. I suspect it is just a case the updater does not handle yet. You will likely see the same conflict when using YAST Online Update. I have asked for more info in the bugreport. No, the browser is 32bit, and also the translations,i am glad too, because of the lack off 64bit flashplayer-support.
I suspect it is just a case the updater does not handle yet.
I was not able to update with the factory GM, and now also not with the released version... And i mean all the updates there are now are not going to be installed, by the zen updater.Helas, there is no possibility to copy the list, and i am not going to type the list: 19 updates..
You will likely see the same conflict when using YAST Online Update.
No i did not, all went allright yesterday, also MS true-type fonts installed ok.
I have asked for more info in the bugreport.
What more info do you want?

I tried again, the only problem was libgpod: no installable providers of python < 2.5 for libgpod-0.4.0-14.pm.0.x86_64[20070105-155207] Now it nicely asked for to install new packages, to fullfill the dependencies, and to put the retail-dvd in the drive.... It is handeling quite well now, exept for the enormous CPU usage, which causes that no task, other than the upgrade can be performed. I would like to ask if it was possible to grant less cpu usage to it, or share better, or a way to configure it manualy? - ----- Have a nice day, M9. Now, is the only time that exists. It also seemed that the missing part was on guru, i needed libxine for the mp3's, so packman was in yast, zen synchronised en took packmann in, so that is correct also.. After i added guru the dependency was solved.... :-)

Hi,
In your case I suspect you installed a 64bit MozillaFirefox-translations and the 32bit MozillaFirefox and it blows up a bit.
No. Mixing MozillaFirefox and MozillaFirefox-translations of different architectures is perfectly valid from the dependency point of view and cannot be the reason for this breakage because the dependency between the two packages is implemented in such a way that the depsolver completely ignores the architecture difference. MozillaFirefox-translations requires MozillaFirefox of any architecture, provided by MozillaFirefox of any architecture. There is no difference between i586+i586, i586+x86_64, x86_64+i586 and x86_64+x86_64 dependency-wise.
I suspect it is just a case the updater does not handle yet.
Sorry, this is a real bug and a damn serious one. It happens whenever a package uses Provides+Obsoletes and is available in a "better" architecture than the currently installed one. MozillaFirefox.x86_64 obsoletes MozillaFirebird of any architecture, provided by MozillaFirefox.i586. Therefore, MozillaFirefox.x86_64 is technically a newer version of MozillaFirefox.i586 and the architecture difference is completely ignored. The result is that the depsolver tries to install two architectures of MozillaFirefox. i586 because that's the direct update to the regularly installed package and x86_64 because that's also an upgrade via Provides+Obsoletes MozillaFirebird. This will of course fail. MozillaFirefox.x86_64 has to disappear from the update repository. Unfortunately it's there since 2 weeks already, making it a bit difficult to resolve now because users might have already installed it via other tools or manually. Huh? And how do you expect people that have the 64bit Firefox from the installation get their security update then? Robert -- Robert Schiele Dipl.-Wirtsch.informatiker mailto:rschiele@gmail.com "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."

That doesn't really matter after having it offered for more than 2 weeks, by now most x86_64 users have been upgraded to MozillaFirefox.x86_64 anyways, so this question is obsolete now. There is already a notable increase in complaints about no longer working plugins. And there's definitely something seriously wrong in zypp about biarch updates, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232413 for another case. The "zypp smoothly updates biarch packages without changing the architecture" thing simply doesn't work. In doubt, it doesn't update anything at all. I have a Mozilla Firefox 64bit edition installed on my Box and the flash plugin works great in there (flash is known to exist only as 32bit). I have the nspluginwrapper installed (from repos.opensuse.org/mozilla) and this works just great. So a 64bit Firefox and a 32bit flash plugin. nspluginwrapper is not yet part of the (official) distribution. Distributing MozillaFirefox.x86_64 is not a problem at all, but if so, it should be done *consistently*, i.e. installed by default together with nspluginwrapper. The current situation is different (and illogial). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I agree, i tried ndiswrapper, but it did not work. Looking in al kind of forums, it seemed that it not allways works, and at that time, it was not clear why. I do not know if it now will work everywhere, but if it does, it should be installed by default, because adobe is not going to create a 64bit version. They clearly stated that, when i asked for it. So i am also again using the 32bit version, which causes no problems at all, (both workarounds, but i would prefer a default installed, and working, ndiswrapper) - -- Have a nice day, M9. Bug 232413 should also happen with YaST. We have to investigate here. Klaus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
