[opensuse-factory] leap42 - cups not finding network printers?
On my Leap desktop test system, cups does not seem to be finding any printers. Normallz (in 13.x), they just appear automagically. /Per -- Posted with knode from openSUSE Leap42.1 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Any hints as to how to debug this? I can see the ipp broadcast from the printserver and other desktops (12.x, 13.x) have no problem. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Did you read the chapter 4.1 Printing System: Improvements and Incompatible Changes # in the release notes? https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/42.1/#gener al Maybe the question is already answered there... Nah, I'm only testing, not migrating. Besides, old habits die hard :-) Looks like I simply had to start cups-browsed. Yep, that did the trick. Maybe that should be the default. thanks Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (13.7°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I don't need cups-browsed on my machine.. just like the majority of users installing openSUSE on their home systems; we might simply connect our printers on the USB port. Maybe it should stay off by default? :) Default setting discussion will ALWAYS give you some users that want it one way and some that want it the other way. Very true - and I guess most don't have networked printers etc. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (13.3°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Johannes I don't quite understand what you mean with this: "When you use YaST, it starts and enables cups-browsed as needed. When you do not use YaST, you need to set up things on your own." On my desktop Leap test system, I do use YaST, but I normally don't have to do anything to get printers working. What would I do with YaST to get cups-browsed automatically started and enabled? /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Okay, I guess this is it: install yast2-printer run yast2-printer and enable network printers. Yes, I wouldn't normally have to do that. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.0°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
