There's not one AVI like the other one. It depends also on the contents. Please give an example, for instance from http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/HTTP/http-avi.htm ... I haven't tried them all, but http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/HTTP/H264/Talkinghead_Media/H264_test... (H.264) and http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/HTTP/AVI/AVIwithWMV/AVI_test2_WMV9SP_... (WMV) work for me in Tumbleweed with the latest update a few minutes ago (using VLC/ffmpeg from Packman). Follow Up I found the problem. When I installed Leap 42.1 the 2nd day of release with phonon4qt5-backend-vlc. Clicking on Audio and Video always crashed the plasmashell. So I removed phonon4qt5-backend-vlc using zypper and forgot about it. VLC requires phonon4qt5-backend-vlc as the default for the codecs to work. I reinstalled it and it no longer crashes. Perhaps the recent update of the frameworks has fixed this problem and number of other instabilities. VLC now plays AVI files! :-) -- Cheers! VLC now plays AVI files! :-) Correction
The problem crash with phonon-backend-vlc and "systemsettings" is in openSUSE 13.2 KDE4 not Leap 42.1. When I booted into Leap 42.1 I didn't install it. -- Cheers!
