What mouse driver are you using according to the /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? Is this the evdev driver ? The current Factory version of Xorg is no longer utilizing the xorg.conf file to handle the mouse and keyboard drivers. If the logfile is indicating the use of evdev, then maybe both bugs are indeed related to each other (however with different effects/issues)
