[opensuse-factory] RC1

I just updated beta 5 via zypper. All seems to have gone well, but I noticed there's STILL a "show stopper" for a LOT of users with Intel video. Performance is the pits.....pure and simple. OpenGL screen savers don't run properly....often with a small widow of the same image super imposed on the full image, and they can still lock up the 'puter. Because of this, I don't dare install RC1 on a desktop with a nVidia video card for fear of what will happen. There are driver and/or "X" problems that must get fixed before release. wmv format movie clips "stutter".......not smooth due to poor performance. That's odd... I've got an Intel integrated card and I'm getting decent performance with screensavers and video... what type do you know aren't working correctly? 965.....it's embeded. It's one of the very often used chipsets on a LOT of laptops. Fred -- "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Don't know, if it related, but on my intel-965 screensavers doesn't start. Test preview works, but automatically they can't start (all that happens - display image freeze. if i move mouse, it defreezes again) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Apparently, 11.1 will release without proper support for the i965 chipset, which is a BIG mistake, IMHO, simply because there are so many laptops with this chipset in use and still being sold by Dell and others with it! MANY Dell sold in Europe and part of Asia with this chipset AND Linux preloaded.....I think the model was an Inspiron 1520n. What do you mean by "proper support"? Is there a bugzilla entry for this somewhere? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I don't think it is related, I have the same issue with an Nvidia card (but somekind of intel chipset...) Erik -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Maybe the same problems I do have? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446081

Well, RC1 works fine on my own ThinkPad X61s with Intel GMA X3100 graphics... BUT: On my PC (http://www.webdatenblatt.de/cds/de/?pid=b1u8i3lt1742045) with Intel GMA 3100 graphics (without the 'X') I don't get any 3D acceleration at all! And on a friends PC (http://www.webdatenblatt.de/cds/de/?pid=b1u8i3lt1946982) with Intel's newer GMA chipset (GMA 4500) the system freezes hard when certain Compiz effects are triggered. Chris, did you or your friend filed a bugreport in bugzilla? If not, please do! I will but I'm a little caught up in other things, so don't expect much poking at this from me, please. Besides, I just discovered that the ThinkPad also freezes when I try to use the 'Cover Flow' plugin of Compiz for application-switching. As you have the same ThinkPad, could you check? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
