Hi, After complete lack of feedback for upstart, I decided to give it a try for Milestone 4 - so the top 6 feature is done ;) Milestone 4 is almost done and I didn't have a problem with my testing so far, so if everything goes right all it takes is an announcement. Ah, in X11:Xorg there is a new X server waiting for your testing. As it no longer uses HAL, the chance it requires some more tweaks are high - so it would be worthy to give it more testing. AFAIK the release date of 4.5 is after the release of openSUSE 11.3, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

It's not bleeding edge, when the time 11.3 goes final all "famous piece of software" is stable. Maybe kde 4.5 won't be released before 11.3. GNOME will be on 2.30.1 or 2.30.2 at that time. commit d139c14a4ad94e655c549cf9901cf755cfb7fde7 Author: Jeff Mahoney
Date: Wed Mar 10 16:11:48 2010 -0500 - Enabled CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS; Matching KMS-enabled X.org has been committed to Factory.
This is ok and true. It just has bugs, but that's no readon to disable it again. I'm hitting http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590248 (X crashes after suspend to RAM with a pretty old radeon mobile card)
I guess the individual who told me that was mistaken.
No, it might work well with a slightly newer X driver or with other chipsets. BTW: does 2.6.34rc2 boot for you? For me does lots of stackdumps early that I can only see with "vga=0" and then hangs hard. (But that's my own kernel-desktop-without-the-need-for-pae from home:seife:KOTD, so I'm not complaining, just interested if it's my fault ;) -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" I'm using 2.6.34-rc2 with no problems. Mine comes from wireless testing and has no openSUSE patches/changes, but it works fine. My graphics adapter is nVidia GeForce Go 7150M for which I use the frame buffer driver, i.e. no 3D acceleration. Ok. So it's working at least for other configurations :-) I'll try to reproduce in kvm, where I can easily capture the backtraces (at least I hope so). It might as well be my config update being broken, so I'll also test with kernel-default from kernel:HEAD to check this. Thanks, seife -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?"
