[opensuse-factory] openSUSE Leap 42.2 Beta2 released
Hi, tl;dr 42.2 Beta 2 is on the mirrors, get it from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ Thanks to the hard work of our KDE team we managed to get the Beta version of Plasma 5.8 LTS¹ (which was just released last Thursday) integrated into Beta 2. The quality of the distribution at this point looks quite good. Since Plasma 5.8 is still a beta version it deserves more attention and thorough testing now. We can help upstream to release a good 5.8.0 and get a decent quality default desktop in return. As usual please report bugs via bugzilla². Make sure to check the most annoying bugs list³. I'd like to point out that several openSUSE specific components and infrastructure need to be translated still. If you want to help with your language, please join the mailinglist⁴ or contact the localization team of your language⁵. We're getting closer to the release, Beta 3 is only two weeks away, with the submission deadline next week Sept 29⁶. From there RC1 is also only two weeks away anymore, so any remaining version updates should be submitted ASAP. Only bug fixes after Beta 3 please. cu Ludwig [1] https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.7.95.php [2] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports [3] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_42.2_dev [4] https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-translation/ [5] https://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Localization_Teams [6] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Hi all, I have a question about bug reporting. I have already Beta 1 installed and documented the results in the given spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AGKijKpKiJCB616-bHVoNQuhWHpQLHPWCb3m... Do you want us to post the results there, to open bugs in the bugzilla for each issue we find or to do both and link it? Thank you Simon Am 22.09.2016 um 15:05 schrieb Ludwig Nussel:

Use Bugzilla to report bugs in any case please. Marita just updated the spread sheet to have a separate tab for Beta2. Entering results there helps to get an overview which areas were covered resp which ones were not. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

There's a rather annoying bug (#1000565) for users of non-us keyboards. An update is on the way. If you find similar issues that affect many users feel free to add a reference to the wiki after filing the bug report: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_42.2_dev cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I got that one updating from 42.2 Alpha on one machine and Beta-1 on another. Had to update as fresh install from DVD would not work for me due to GRUB problems; first effort came up with a message to the effect that GRUB didn't have a valid license for the device and after a second installation all I got was 'GRUB:'. I'll have some more goes at that to try to see why it behaved differently and whether it is machine-dependent or not.
