Re: [opensuse-factory] smartmontools: Proposal to enable regular HDD Self Tests
Hi all. "AFAIK only GNOME provides a desktop notification currently, but providing a desktop agnostic bridge between udisks and the notification spec for anything but gnome (KDE, xfce, ...) should be easy." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What I have done in the past is to run plasma tools and gdm at the same time, the easiest way to do this is to run Gnome Desktop and then run specific tools or applets as you see fit from the CLI or run level five start program list. It should be possible to build a profile that achieves the right notifications including DBus even if it's means running KDE, xfce, lxde or any window manager for that matter. What I haven't tried so far is to customise the apps or applets that run inside window managers or desktop environments, it would be time intensive unless there is a simple way of virtualising or simply making them headless console applications in a VM, container or customised state at the source level.. That's your everyday application as a console tool, is it worth the time to try that out? Cheers
