[opensuse-factory] ?incomplete installation?
On 01 Nov I did from grub startup using only 13.2's linux and initrd previously downloaded, and with network configs on grub/kernel cmdline, an HTTP Minimal X Window 13.2 wired fixed IP installation.[1] Network did not start on first boot subsequent to the several boots on the day of installation. IIRC, on day of installation, network did not start automatically in (at least) the first (post-installation) boot. Startx does start a KDE3 session in multi-user. 1-/etc/systemd/system/graphical.target.wants does not exist 2-Nowhere in the /etc/systemd/system/ tree does network.target exist, including multi-user.target.wants, wicked.service.wants and wickedd.service.wants. 3-zypper rm wicked wants to remove 45 packages, most (all?) of yast2*, sysconfig*, dhcpcd and several base patterns 4- https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Wicked makes no suggestion what alternative to using Wicked might exist 5-Ifup eth0 after login today did start network for that boot 6-On subsequent boot to multi-user, network started automatically 7-'wicked show-config eth0' reports unable to read config source 8-/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules exists with a timestamp about 4 hours after installation finished. IIRC, I created it manually, probably because network was not automatically starting 9-/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 has a timestamp during initial installation, and contains STARTMODE='auto', while that system's 13.1 has onboot, and no wicked. What did happen that should not have, or did not happen that should have, that network did not start in multi-user? In Fedora, I could have network automatically start with the following: systemctl add-wants multi-user.target network but the result in 13.2 is Unknown operation 'add-wants". With wicked installed, intuitively I wouldn't necessarily want to set that anyway. Without using YaST, what's necessary to make network start automatically and reliably on wired single NIC only fixed IP? IOW, what if any alternative to Wicked exists for single NIC fixed IP void of wireless systems that need no post-installation "management" of network? Why does /etc/systemd/system/graphical.target.wants not exist? Is there any installation bug apparent here?
