[opensuse-factory] sddm segfault libQt5Quick.so.5.6.1
Hi, I had running a Leap 42.2 RC2 with lightdm. Now I wanted to try sddm. However, starting display-manager.service results with the following error: kernel: sddm-greeter[9806]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f1575b95b45 sp 00007ffd01ec7760 error 4 in libQt5Quick.so.5.6.1[7f15759f6000+3d1000] Below the output of journalctl when starting the display-manger.service Anyone running sddm successfully? best regards Thomas Nov 16 10:23:00 linux-0l30 systemd[1]: Starting X Display Manager... This is part of plasma5-workspace, so check if that package is installed, it is required by the breeze sddm theme (which is provided by KDE for better integration with Plasma5). If it is installed, try to reinstall it: sudo zypper in -f plasma5-workspace If you don't want to install plasma5-workspace, switch to another theme in /etc/sddm.conf (available are maui, elarun, circles, maldives). Or install sddm-branding-upstream instead of sddm-branding-openSUSE... Hi Wolfgang, Thanks for the good explanation. I installed the package sddm-branding-upstream and now sddm is running. Why is plasma-workspace not a requirement of the package sddm-branding-openSUSE? It would be nice if sddm is out-of-the-box-usable after installation. best regards Thomas On 2016-11-16 13:15, Wolfgang Bauer wrote:

I'm quite sure that it was a requirement in the past. But it apparently got lost somehow when the packages have been reworked for Plasma 5.8. I created a submit request to add the missing dependency though.

Well, it is usable if you use the upstream branding and/or themes. And the missing dependency should be fixed soon as well... ;) Btw, sddm 0.14.0 behaves better in this regard: it falls back to a built-in theme when the configured one cannot be loaded or doesn't work, and prints an error message about that fact on the login screen.
