[opensuse-factory] Fwd: Post to opensuse-factory@opensuse.org denied: KMAIL 5.3.0: no printing
Hello! I'm using KMAIL 5.3.0 and I got this error message when trying to print within KMAIL: "Die Druck-Unterstützung in WebEngine ist derzeit eingeschränkt. Für das Drucken wird ein externer Webbrowser verwendet." Using the browser makes printing possible, but not in KMAIL. I did a fresh installation of tumbleweed but it's the same. My notebook runs Tumbleweed with KMAIL 5.1.2 and there isn't an error saying that printing is only possible with the web browser. For me as a non-it-pro-user it looks like that there is no printing module in KMAIL 5.1.2 included. I can't find any printer settings in the program. Please give me some hints solving this problem! TIA! You mean in 5.3.0, I suppose. Starting with 5.3.0 (KDE Applications 16.08.0), kmail and the other kdepim applications use QtWebEngine (which is based on Chromium) for the message display. And printing support is not available yet in QtWebEngine.
Please give me some hints solving this problem!
Wait for kdepim 16.12.0 and Qt 5.8. Apparently it should be "fixed" then. https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kdepim-bugs/2016-October/109723.html Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Is there a release date already fixed for this? Last night I made an attempt to reduce worlds largest Botnet by one device - an old Dell D630 got TW installed. Positively speaking, the result was not satisfying. Apparently there are some more issues with KDE in current TW: - KDE freezes already during startup - if autologin is enabled - KMail is offline, if no network is available at startup (quite frequent with WIFI connections) - it does not go online until you restart akonadi manually - as a result, several attempts were required until all mail got synced. KMail was showing the amount of mail next to the inbox, but did not display any mail (IMAP Account, mails downloaded for offline use) - Display of video freezes desktop. Right after a few seconds the picture freezes while the sound continues. Sound freezes after a few seconds as well. With some luck the video program (vlc, kaffeine 2.0.4) is terminated, but I had as well that kwin crashes (window decoration gone) as well as full freeze - not even CRTL-ALT-Backspace worked - Hibernation results in a reboot, but at least suspend works.. As this PC is for a more unexperienced user, I'm uncertain what to do - try/wait to get this fixed, or install 13.1? KDE Applications 16.12.0 will be released on Dec. 15th, see https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Applications/16.12_Release_Schedule. I don't know about Qt 5.8.0 though, which is needed as well, as QtWebEngine will not have printing support before 5.8.0.

13.1 is out of support since January. And Evergreen support was only announced/guaranteed until November, no idea if it will be prolonged. 13.2 will still be supported a few months though. Or why not try Leap 42.1 or 42.2 instead? The latter is at RC1 currently (with RC2 being released soon), but the release is imminent (in about 2 weeks). Tumbleweed (as rolling distribution) is probably not the best idea for a "more unexperienced user" anyway. OTOH, as most mentioned problems seem to be related to the graphics driver, I would suggest trying to switch to UXA acceleration: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Switch_xf86-video-intel_to_UXA Or uninstall the intel driver (package xf86-video-intel) completely and try the generic "modesetting" driver (which will still give you hardware OpenGL support, and 2D acceleration via OpenGL). Probably the GMA X3100 with shared memory cuased the trouble. Switching to UXA did not help, but your second hint, removal ot the Intel graphics driver, fixed the problem. Now the system runs smart and should serve the needs (some Emails, some browsing, some videos...) Thanks!
