Hello Ludwig, first and foremost many thanks for the topmost "Packages changed" overview! It makes it much easier to check whether or not one of my recent package changes is included in a Tumbleweed snapshot. On Dec 18 10:57 Ludwig Nussel wrote (excerpt):

A proposal for further improvement: Could you move the "Packages removed" and "Packages added" overviews to the top of the mail so that one can easier check all affected packages by a Tumbleweed snapshot? E.g. like Packages added: ... Packages removed: ... Packages changed: ... === Details === ... Technically it would be possible of course but the list of added and removed packages has to be taken with a grain of salt. The list only refers to the x86_64 DVD. The content of the DVD is automatically generated from the patterns. So usually added packages are not actually new. Most of the time they just got included on the DVD due to package splits or changed dependencies. Similarly removed packages are rarely ones that got dropped from Factory but are rather no longer on the DVD as they are no longer needed by packages there. A list that really has added and removed packages of Factory would have to compute that based on the content of openSUSE:Factory in OBS. So I'm reluctant to make added and removed packages more prominent in the snapshot announcements. Maybe they shouldn't even be listed at all to avoid confusion. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Seems to me their inclusion serves _only_ to create confusion. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I think it is better do no longer list x86_64 DVD added/removed packages because at least I confused it with openSUSE:Tumbleweed added/removed packages. I confused it regardless that your mail explicitly states "The described changes are computed based on the x86_64 DVD" because I understood that as if it was only meant for the changed packages. IMHO this list is useful (at least sometimes), so maybe just use more helpful headlines? Packaged added to the DVD: Packages removed from the DVD: Regards, Christian Boltz -- PS: Ich hab mir nedit mehrfach angeschaut. Da nehm ich dann doch noch lieber vim. Danke. Packaged added to the DVD: Packages removed from the DVD:
German correctness requires Packages added to the x86_64 DVD Packages removed from the x86_64 DVD to avoid confusion with Intel 32-bit and Power ppc64 and ppc64le cf. https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_installation ;-) Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX GmbH - GF: Felix Imendoerffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton - HRB 21284 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
