[opensuse-factory] kernel update history and kde logs
Hello, I have a little sound problem with kde. * where are located the kde error logs? I don't see them in /var/log ("sound device removed" say a message that flashes and desapear) - I would like to look at them and if necessary share them :-) * is there a place with a kernel update history (that is a list of kernel updates with the date they where pushed)? I have the same problem with 11.3 (2.6.34.7-07) and 11.4RC1 (2.6.37), but's it recent the problem is the following: at start kde issues a message saying "the sound card was removed, do you want me to forget it?" but after that the sound works pretty well. This was not the case say 15 dayx ago. so I wonder if it's a hardware problem (my computer is new - less than 1 month) or a software problem. I couldn't fix it with the help of the openSUSE forum. if it's a kernel problem, I can open a bugzilla. I have two sound cards (included in the box, I never openned it), one is seen as nvidia for hdmi, the other is seen as realtek by windows 7 and as intel by openSUSE thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

rpm -q --changelog kernel-desktop
the problem is the following: at start kde issues a message saying "the sound card was removed, do you want me to forget it?" but after that the sound works pretty well. This was not the case say 15 dayx ago.

that happen when phonon detects changes in the hardware ( could be also a fake change, like activating pulseaudio ) Normally 11.4 come with pulseaudio activated by default, then kde4 should have also gstreamer as phonon default backend. Don't know if it's well supported with two cards.
if it's a kernel problem, I can open a bugzilla.
I have two sound cards (included in the box, I never openned it), one is seen as nvidia for hdmi, the other is seen as realtek by windows 7 and as intel by openSUSE
Normally you will be able to check each of them. With yast, then with systemsettings under kde
thanks jdd

check ~/.xession-errors
I have reset this one (too crowded) and will see what happen.
rpm -q --changelog kernel-desktop
I use -default (no desktop kernel). last change from december! http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2011-01/ list more (but I'm not that sure it was applied here)
that happen when phonon detects changes in the hardware ( could be also a fake change, like activating pulseaudio)
thats why I wondered if it's not simply a fake announce due to parallel start of drivers
Normally 11.4 come with pulseaudio activated by default, then kde4 should have also gstreamer as phonon default backend. Don't know if it's well supported with two cards.
may be as a symptom, I don't have any phono entry in the kde 4.4.4 11.3 kde control center (I have one in the 11.4), and I don't find a way to activate it. I may have removed some device accidentally?
Normally you will be able to check each of them. With yast, then with systemsettings under kde
on 11.3, yast issue a sound with the intel one, not with the nvidia (should be normal, the nvidia is for hdmi and I don't have any hdmi device) - same for kde on 11.4, kde control center, the two cards give sound, despite the error message thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It gets "reset" at every login. What you do afterwards will have no influence since it can't be closed/reopened. -- Stefan Seyfried "Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body!" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

ok, but what do I have to search there? what I see that can be relevant is: (knotify4:2722): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_debug_add_log_function: assertion `func != NULL' failed "Avertissement : il semble que vous n'ayez pas installé le paquetage « gstreamer0.10-plugins-good ». I suspect that it results from the transition to PulseAudio under KDE installs. Is this a user home that was used prior to 11.4? If so please old ~/.kde4/share/config/phonondevicesrc when KDE is not running, and see if the problem goes away. Then post your phonondevicesrc. no, brand new install from the net cd (but may be only at the second start, I will try your hint (tomorrow :-) thanks jdd If so please
