[opensuse-factory] kernel snafu fun today
btrfs nvidia updated Tw today to 20180218 which included kernel-default-4.15.3-1.5.x86_64. rebooted to use the new kernel and my system came up with the maintenance prompt. unable to find a problem, attempted snapper rollback to each of several late snapshots. all were met with coredumps. this is an ancient Tw install continually updated. only indication of possible problem I saw was system could not mount /var/... no problem with space btrfs fi df / Data, single: total=32.00GiB, used=31.59GiB System, single: total=32.00MiB, used=16.00KiB Metadata, single: total=2.00GiB, used=1.25GiB GlobalReserve, single: total=89.94MiB, used=0.00B so finally I rebooted an older kernel, successfully. so I "zypper rm kernel-default-4.15.3-1.5.x86_64" and then reinstalled it. everything now is fine or appears so. there were no errors from zypper or rpm, I watch attentively. strange things -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

strange things
I've filed 5 TW bugs in the past ~50 hours. Latest: 20180218 installer created no initrd. Dracut in chroot wouldn't make one, but mkinitrd -B did. Then booting it produced ro / filesystem.... :-( -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Whatever else you get, get wisdom." Proverbs 4:7 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
