openSUSE Release Engineering Meeting 25.07.1989
All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting Meeting is hosted here https://meet.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ## Participants guillaumeg, dleuenberger, ddemaio, DocB, lkocman, maxlin, deneb_alpha, meissner ## Leap Limited availability this week. FTO next week. A statement on maintenance/zypper patch issues was published on news-o- o and advertised across most of openSUSE channels https://news.opensuse.org/2021/07/19/leap-gains-maintenance-update-improveme... Done with https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:15.3/Retrospective. Current tasks is to actual create progress tickets, send recognitions. TODO: 15.3 - Selinux won't boot without selinux policy https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1187326 I have to look into this seems linux SLEs disabled feature in skelcd- control files. We will most likely have to supply the policy, but that will only work with enabled updates. (Release notes entry needed). SP3 selinux-policy seems to have a working fix for SLE, so we could most likely reuse it. TODO check this. Advertise https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features this on factory as a place to raise RFEs or larger efforts for the release. TODO from Board: Some regular re-builds of Leap install images (SLE has it on a quarterly basis). We're not really interested in constant rebuilds. But simply having up2date image with latest bug- and security fixes. Current image still suffers from installation bugs as well as e.g. boothole3. This could also help us to fight with painful post-ga issues. Axel would like to have get-o-o offering always the latest install image. Axel confirmed that he'd like to see this for 15.3 already. 15.4 would not help to fix current issues on RaspPI etc. Looking for review of https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process ## openSUSE Tumbleweed dleuenberger on FTO - from August 2 - 14 * VirtualBox in combination with kernel 5.13 has been fixed * KDE Frameworks 5.84.0 * GNOME 40.3 is on the way to Tumbleweed overall, stagings seems rather quietly moving, load is not at the max, we even have empty stagings ## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS) Not Available Dominique: k8s 1.21.3 update ## Max * 'local' repository seem to be mis-configurated for openSUSE:Leap:15.4 Adrian should be able to fix this. We'll talk to him. * Enabled all needing bots for Leap:15.4 and Backports:SLE-15-SP4 * Filed 15.3 retro tickets, will go thru them in the retro meeting https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%... Lubos will try to gather people for Monday morning 1h meeting 9am-ish if we can get for example yast, zypper team representatives. Otherwise we'd delay it for few weeks until DimStar and lkocman are both available. ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * Update to kernel 5.13.1 broke armv6/7 due to https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1188327 CONFIG_FIPS is disabled on armv6/7 configs as a workaround. A proper fix is being worked on. Leap 15.3: * aarch64: * Still not able to build locally (osc build --vm-type=kvm) for aarch64 with a Tumbleweed host. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1183653 * Armv7: Should be good enough to release. Need to check with maintenance if we can freeze and release. TODO: check with maintenance team. WSL: Stalled: WIP to have WSL on aarch64 on https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:Guillaume_G:WSL todo: lkocman to write a blog post how We have a WSL feature for 15 SP4 to have all SUSE/openSUSE images installed from outside of the store "adopt the new behavior". Therefore we wouldn't have to build the WSL-DistroLauncher image any more. ## Sarah - s390x Not available, sent an apology Dominique: Issues around openssh and the root can't login (no longer accepted root passwd auth by default) are still hanging. (Issue was reported internally for SLE-15-SP4 as well for proper handling/communication on SUSE side). Test issue continuously open - workaround fix as PR available (not stable enough): https://github.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-distri-opensuse/pull/12875 sshd permit root login - https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/23 Feedback by IBM about LLVM 12 compatibilty with PostgreSQL: The jit issue can not be fixed by LLVM without loosing performance. Fixes by PostgreSQL should be used. ## Doug FTO - from August 2 - 14 (will be availalbe for sprint, Summit and Nest. hopefully I have good internet ;-) * openSUSE.Asia Summit (August 6th- 8th) * Fedora Nest/Flock booth complete * Collaboration panel discussion * GSoC 1st evalutions complete * Regular Meeting * Date: Every Saturday from 17:00 to 19:00 UTC (per the survey) (7- 9pm CEST) Location: https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting Etherpad: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/weeklymeeting * There will also be an 11:00 UTC meeting on Saturdays based on feedback from those attending last week's meeting. Using same location and etherpad. * software.o.o. proposal to be presented to LSG. Can show on Saturday in regular meeting ## Dirk Not available ## Gerald On vacation ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling Not avilable openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP4, builds for x86_64 are looking good (thanks to Max) other archs like s390x still have many failed and unresolvables discussion about gap https://software.opensuse.org/package/gap (fails to build on s390x), shall we keep it in Backports (it was removed from Factory long time ago) lkocman: https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/24 ## Maintenance team (Marina or Marcus) Marina: wxWidgets-3_0 update is still waiting for a submission against the proper SLE codestream. @Lubos, check your inbox please ;) Will do The rpm version update for 15.3 is still in QA queue on SLE side. The call between maintenance and PackageHub teams is tomorrow. Goal is to cooperate better and improve the delivery process (thanks Wolfgang :) ) Marcus: New SLE import channel switch happened last week (see the article referenced above). openQA for Leap 15.3 is mostly green thanks to our QA and Engineers. Leap 15.3 for ARMv7: requires "ack" from Maintenance team prior "GA". Marcus: we don't have resources for this at the moment. It would require a setup similar to Leap 15.2, where all updates get auto imported and rebuilt... . We would need at least 0.5-1 FTE. It requires monitoring that queue for everything builds. Personally I (MArcus) don't have time to work on this. Marcus: what could work is to have maintenance updates accumulated in the image rebuilds as suggested in the Leap 15.3 section above. Guillaume_G: best effort is fine for ARMv7 Max: do we have to do something on channel side in case that the Image will contain all previously published updates? Any tweaks needed? Marcus: I think nothing is needed. ## Adrian - CtLG or openSUSE Step On vacation (also for the next week). All covered in comments above. Adrian: I had to fix issues in product builder so we won't end up in situation where srpm is missing. We've had this issue by glibc (this would otherwise violate GPL). This would be another reason to rebuild ftp trees. How do we reference to CODE 15. 15.3 was the result of our survey.
