[opensuse-factory] Why was dhcpcd dropped?
Hi, just wondering why dhcpcd was silently dropped from Factory? Can't find anything in the mailing list archives, the advanced search doesn't work for date ranges. https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/316360 said, there is a replacement in wicked: /usr/lib/wicked/bin/wickedd-dhcp4 --test eth0 but IMHO, it would be nice to write that one-liner into a /usr/sbin/dhcpcd wrapper Ciao Bernhard M. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Ciao Bernhard M.
Thanks, I don't think dhcpcd was well maintained either, seems like ISC's dhclient is preferred. Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/316360 said, there is a replacement in wicked:
As was discussed recently on genereal list, wicked does not support IPv6 Prefix Delegation and there is no real plans to add it.

For this specific use case dhcpcd is better suited; in any case "dhclient is preferred" sounds rather amusing in reply to "it was dropped because there is replacement in wicked". Oh, and there is life beyond wicked - there is also Network Manager which can use either dhcpcd or dhclient. In any case - the problem that currently dhcpcd is not available even from network:dhcp, it returns error says link is broken. Is it also intentional? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Link file has to be deleted and package will be fixed. -- Best regards, Dmitriy Perlow R&D chemical engineer Lekpharm JLLC -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
