[opensuse-factory] Missing kernel-modules for update-kernel
Hello, in the update/10.3 directory of the openSUSE server there is a kernel-update to version 2.6.22.9-0.4 availaible. But it looks like all the *-kmp-* Packages with the additional kernel modules (like the VirtualBox Modules) aren't there. And shouldn't be there a dependency to the kernel version: manfred@marvin2:~> rpm -q --requires virtualbox-kmp-default rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1 kernel-default /bin/sh /bin/sh /bin/sh rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadIsBzip2) <= 3.0.5-1 manfred@marvin2:~> rpm -ql virtualbox-kmp-default /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default/updates /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default/updates/vboxdrv.ko it doesn't work after the update, so the dependency should point to "kernel-default = 2.6.22.5-31" and not only "kernel-default" I think. PS: DSDT-Reload (ACPI_DSDT in /etc/sysconfig/kernel) is broken in the 10.3 kernels, 2.6.22.5-31 and 2.6.22.9-0.4. I'll open a bugreport. -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

it doesn't work after the update, so the dependency should point to "kernel-default = 2.6.22.5-31" and not only "kernel-default" I think.
The KMPs RPMs do not need to be updated when the kernel does not change its exports (which it should not have this time). So "modprobe vboxdrv" should still work fine. What is the problem you see? Starting a virtual machine only produces a requester with the following message: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's the problem. There also is no /etc/init.d/vboxdrv I can execute. And yes, it worked fine until the kernel update -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes vboxdrv: Trying to deactivate the NMI watchdog permanently... vboxdrv: NMI watchdog either active or at least initialized. Please disable the NMI vboxdrv: watchdog by specifying 'nmi_watchdog=0' at kernel command line.
Please open a bugreport...
It seems not to be a problem depending directly on the kernel update. I've recompiled the virtualbox-1.5.0-11.src.rpm and installed the new kmp package. It doesn't change anything. I'll try to find out more about the problem and will open a bugreport if it isn't a lokale problem only. -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I've read it now. My user is in vboxusers grup. I'm using 32bit Version (no 64bit Support in my PentiumM). I'll give the kernel parameter "nmi_watchdog=0" a chance, but I can't reboot at the moment. -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Have you line
MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="vboxdrv"
in /etc/sysconfig/kernel file.
I've added it. But loading the modul manual should do the same, I think. -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It should, *but* do you want to do that all the time? - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn4472 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHEUkkClSjbQz1U5oRAkCsAJsEHwX4RAkOBdgZTpX0JbQiGUXIMwCfUHIJ sSVclcLPcc0VsXfjkjKvNnc= =wHLb -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It works fine here. On two different computers even. Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

x86-64 vs. i386 maybe? Thanks, Bernhard --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
