[opensuse-factory] Cant switch to console anymore
I just discovered a strange problem. I wanted to go to the console, hit ctr-alt-f1 as usual, but nothing happens. I just can´t go to the console. I tried all f keys from f1 to f10, nothing works... The console is like locked up. I use the drivers from nVidia, any issues there? Using driver version 319.17. Kernel is 3.9.4-11.g51bf0ff-desktop on openSUSE 12.3 Tumbleweed. Do you have any clue what might be wrong there? Thanx Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Try rebooting the computer. You might also try restarting the desktop to see if that clears the problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Didn´t help. I think I give up on Tumbleweed, it broke suspend/hibernation on my machine and networkmanager has some (though just cosmetic) issues. I go back to standard 12.3. Can you still execute `chvt 1` from a root xterm? If so, it's just your X keymap that's fubared. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Problem with late versions, but not Tw itself. When you boot, boot to runlevel 3 first, and then 5, and before completing level 5 login screen, go back to a console screen as root and issue "rcxdm stop", "rcxdm start". Complete your login screen and you should be able to use the consoles. wfm, ymmv, gud luk, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Ugly, but worked. OTOH I don´t use the vt that much, so I can wait until it gets fixed. thanx Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=811185 I've been debugging this one a good part of last week and I have a patch which is semi-fixing this. Hopefully, I'll get it resolved this wekk. -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Meanwhile, adding 'plymouth.enable=0' to the kernel boot line works around the bug. Please package from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fcrozat:/debugplymouth/stand... It fixes the issue for me. And reply on the bug report with your result ;) -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It may not be the same problem, but for some reason /bin/login wasn't around -- turns out some new version of util-linux hadn't installed but whatever package owned it before was removed successfully! ;-( Couldn't figure out why I couldn't get login prompts in rc3... But sounds like your prob might be different? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
