[opensuse-factory] New NTP feature: rcntp addserver

This is run time configuration only. There is no need to store the setting in /etc/ntp.conf in the majority of use cases. As an example the NTP servers might be provided by DHCP or DNS SRV records. Check /var/log/messages for "runtime configuration" messages. Do we have to explain this ntp runtime concept in the release notes or better in a README of the package and only reference this README in the release notes? Hi,
Do we have to explain this ntp runtime concept in the release notes or better in a README of the package and only reference this README in the release notes? yes please explain in the release notes I was allready wondering too how this is supposed to work now.
Would be nice if you could write a little explanation to this list before. Thanks Felix -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Please check if "man 8 netconfig" section "NETCONFIG MODULES ntp-runtime" provides enough. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SuSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

But it still doesn't work, so it's a bug after all. There should be something in RUNTIME_SERVERS after running "rcntp addserver", right? silviu:~ # rcntp addserver timp.mcti.ro silviu:~ # cat /var/run/ntp/servers-netconfig ### /var/run/ntp/servers-netconfig file autogenerated by netconfig! # # Before you change this file manually, consider to define the # static NTP configuration using the following variables in the # /etc/sysconfig/network/config file: # NETCONFIG_NTP_STATIC_SERVERS # or disable NTP configuration updates via netconfig by setting: # NETCONFIG_NTP_POLICY='' # # See also the netconfig(8) manual page and other documentation. # # Note: Manual change of this file disables netconfig too, but # may get lost when this file contains comments or empty lines # only, the netconfig settings are same with settings in this # file and in case of a "netconfig update -f" call. # ### Please remove (at least) this line when you modify the file! For static configuration, you can try this: yast2 ntp-client add server=ntp.somedomain.com Stano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, that is useful and works. I have filed a bug for rcntp addserver https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446545 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
