Re: [opensuse-factory] Should implement systemwide automounting
I depend on auto-mounting and it is a now expected behavior across all my installations. Not having it by default is no an acceptable situation. My apologies for sending this only to Dominique earlier. I forgot to change the "to" field in gmail and is defaults to the last post's address not to the list. -- ____________ Steven L Hess ARS KC6KGE DM05gd22 Skype user flamebait Cell 661 487 0357 (Facetime) Google Voice 661 769 6201 openSUSE Linux 12.1 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Use a maintained DE and you can get the possibility to have that. The second part of your statement is… But you for sure forgot the "for me" to put at least some sense into it. So you just don't give a shit about those who uses any DE other than Gnome or KDE such as Awesome, xmonad, IceWM and so on. Or do you hope they should rewrite the automounting subsystem two time a year? Do you understad how much excess work you are putting on the developers all of whom now have to rewrite from scratch the same functionality that already implemented in udev? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
For the record I used KDE 4 and I do depend on auto mounting. It is the expected behavior. It is kind of strange to see NFS mounts in the device notifier in 12.1 though. -- ____________ Steven L Hess ARS KC6KGE DM05gd22 Skype user flamebait Cell 661 487 0357 (Facetime) Google Voice 661 769 6201 openSUSE Linux 12.1 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

zypper in udisks-glue
udisks-glue needs an extensive script-like config file that is not shipped with it. Just installing udisks-glue will not help anybody. And that file is written in a special language so it is not possible for an average user to use it. Also this config file needs to be adjusted for each new version of udisks, the examples I found in the internet are calling the udisks command line utility which is not compatible with udisks-2. So the script should be rewritten by a user. You youself do not recommend to call udisks console utilities, yet it is necessary if you use udisks-glue. There is no example of udisks-glue config file that does not use udisks command line tools.

Please provide an example of implementing automounting by a user without calling the udisks command-line tools (which you do not recommand yourself) and without a need to write down extensive scripts. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I see a rather simple config file at http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Automounting#Udisks_and_udisks-glue And you can ship that in the package as an example. Or contribute it upstream. Also see the man page: https://github.com/fernandotcl/udisks-glue/blob/master/man/udisks-glue.conf....
Also this config file needs to be adjusted for each new version of udisks, the examples I found in the internet are calling the udisks command line utility which is not compatible with udisks-2. So the script should be rewritten by a user.
Huh? That's not what I've seen with the example and documentation above. Out of curiosity, what are the examples you found?

Please don't put words in my mouth: I didn't say "do not use udisks console utilities". I advised you can create a wrapper if you feel you should support both udisks and udisks2. The first example in the man page does not automount optical drives. The second example uses the udisks command line utility. It does NOT work without directly calling udisks --mount! # # Filters # filter disks { optical = false partition_table = false usage = filesystem } filter burnable { optical = true optical_disc_closed = false } filter optical { optical = true } # # The default entry (only used if no filters match) # default { post_insertion_command = "insertion\-notify %device_file" } # # Additional entries # match disks { automount = true automount_options = { sync, noatime } post_mount_command = "mount\-notify mounted %device_file %mount_point" post_unmount_command = "mount\-notify unmounted %device_file %mount_point" } match burnable { post_insertion_command = "k3b %device_file" post_mount_command = "mount\-notify mounted %device_file %mount_point" post_insertion_command = "udisks \-\-mount %device_file \-\-mount\-options ro" } match optical { automount = true automount_options = ro post_mount_command = "mount\-notify mounted %device_file %mount_point" post_insertion_command = "udisks \-\-mount %device_file \-\-mount\-options ro" } -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I wonder to what extent udisks-glue is compatible with udisks-2 since even in the git repository the udisks-glue man page still gives example configs that call the udisks-1 utility: https://github.com/fernandotcl/udisks-glue/blob/master/man/udisks-glue.conf.... It is evident that the second example will not work without udisks-1 installed and udisks-1 is not in the dependencies of udisks-glue. How much it safe for a package to rely on udisks-glue and not to require udisks-1 also installed? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

No, as others have mentioned it's you that's wrong, ignoring statements by people more competent then you (don't bother to think about me, there are others where there is no need to discuss since it's pretty obvious, i.e. linux pros) and lacks any kind of self-reflection. You have been pointed to solutions, you have been pointed to facts, you have been told you are wrong, yet you don't get it but live your Weltanschauung of "being against sth." just for the sake of it. You twist facts in order to always claim the same, i.e. you are the poor victim of incompetent software development. You seem to enjoy that role and be pretty good at it. The sad thing is though that by now you managed to annoy everyone. Whereas you explained others disagreeing with you by them being KDE4 fanboys or KDE3 haters (what a self- delusion) now that lame excuse does not work anymore because you are told your attitude is off by all kinds of users, yet you still do not start self- reflecting. Don't get me wrong, everybody can do/think whatever s/he wants. Only when it starts to affect others, because you start twisting and ignoring facts, spreading false claims or accusing others of incompetency it has to stop.
