[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.1 beta: No network during DVD installation and more Fan noise
Some experiences: I have switched to Leap 42.1 x86_64/Gnome as my default boot system on two home machines, a stationary and a laptop workstation. While the DVD installation from M2 and Beta1 went well, I had bad experience with Build 222 and had to skip (ignore) several packages to come through the installation, and later zypper problems with the rpm database. The upgrade from the latest Build 223 and current repo went well again however. So now these two machines looks to work quite well, while waiting for the Packman 'multimedia repo' and Remmina ;) On the downside, I will remark that I was not able to configure neither wired nor wifi network for online repos during the installation or upgrade, After installation, both network were possible to configure normally using YaST. Another thing I have noticed, is more fan noise at full speed from the laptop, both during the installation itself and later often during startup and the first phase (minutes) after login. I had previous similar fan noise with the Nividia propriarity driver, but I see no reason why Leap should need more fan speed on a "cold laptop" than the "quiet 13.2" using Nouveau. --------------- Terje J. I just wonder, what can cause the continuously running fan at hight speed and noise also during a user session? In comparision when I reboot to 13.2, the fan slow down to quiet in 5 seconds. You could check the output of "sensors" to compare the temperature of different sections. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

At least the fan slowed down after a while after login now. On 13.2 it slow down as mentioned a few seconds after boot. As the sensors 3.4.0 package is not available for Leap yet, I tried and got installed the package for Tumbleweed instead. There is some differences between the output of sensors for Leap and 13.2 as follows, but sorry it doesn't telle me much: Leap 42.1 --------------- # sensors nouveau-pci-0100 Adapter: PCI adapter temp1: +54.0°C (high = +95.0°C, hyst = +3.0°C) (crit = +105.0°C, hyst = +2.0°C) (emerg = +110.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C) acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +16.0°C (crit = +105.0°C) temp2: +47.0°C (crit = +105.0°C) temp3: +39.6°C (crit = +110.0°C) temp4: +40.0°C (crit = +110.0°C) temp5: +61.0°C (crit = +110.0°C) coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +52.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 1: +50.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) openSUSE 13.2 ------------------ # sensors nouveau-pci-0100 Adapter: PCI adapter temp1: +54.0°C (high = +95.0°C, hyst = +3.0°C) (crit = +105.0°C, hyst = +2.0°C) (emerg = +110.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C) acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +16.0°C (crit = +105.0°C) temp2: +46.0°C (crit = +105.0°C) temp3: +39.4°C (crit = +110.0°C) temp4: +30.0°C (crit = +110.0°C) temp5: +45.0°C (crit = +110.0°C) coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +40.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Core 1: +40.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C) Thanks, Terje j. Well, it is easy to see that leap has four sensors about 10 degrees warmer. "Core" I suppose is the CPU. Temp 4 and 5 I don't know. Chipset or fans. That could be enough for a bug report, you have proof. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
